Creating envelopes

Envelopes in Configuration Hub support X12, EDIFACT, VDA, and TRADACOM Standards.

Before you begin

Create a global control number configuration. For more information, see Creating global control number configurations.
Note: Although creating global control numbers is not a prerequisite for creating envelopes, you can use the global control numbers that you create if you select Yes for the Use global control number field within the Envelope options section.

About this task

Refer to the following procedure to create inbound or outbound envelopes.

Procedure

  1. From the side navigation menu, select Transformations > Envelopes.
  2. Click Add envelope.
  3. On the Add envelope modal, select your CTE business alias from the drop down.
The Production business alias populates automatically.
As an IBMer, you can create an envelope for only the production environment. This feature is not applicable for business users. To create a production-only envelope, select the Use only production business alias checkbox. Then, select an alias from the drop down. However, the envelope that you create within the production environment cannot be transferred to another user that does not have appropriate permissions.
  4. Input a name for your envelope.
The name can contain alphanumeric characters, underscore (_), and hyphen (-).
  5. Select the direction for your envelope.
  6. Select the standard and type for your envelope.
  7. Optional: Provide a description for your envelope.
  8. Click Add.
    The envelope is now created.
  9. To configure your envelope in the CTE environment, refer to the following instructions. Based on your selected envelope type, flow, and standard, refer to the field descriptions in the respective envelope.
For example, to refer to the fields for ISA Interchange from EDI, for X12 standard, see X12 ISA Interchange, inbound.
    1. If you are using an IBM VAN connection, you must first check and verify whether your EDI ID is present in IBM VAN. If your EDI ID is not present, contact IBM Support to get the EDI IDs added. To check whether your EDI IDs are present in IBM VAN, see Looking up trading partners and EDI IDs.
    2. In the Key identifiers section on the CTE configurations page for your envelope, input identifiers to configure the envelope for the CTE.

When you edit an envelope configuration, the values for some of the key identifier fields, such as the Sender ID and Receiver ID fields, cannot be edited. Editing the fields might impact the associated routing rules. However, to edit the fields, you can contact IBM Support. For more information about which Key identifiers remain noneditable, see Noneditable fields.

    3. In the Envelope options section, configure options for the envelope in the CTE.
    4. In the Delimiters or the Compliance check options section, configure the options for the envelope.
  10. Optional: Click Duplicate check to verify whether envelopes with the same configuration have been deployed before.
    This step avoids runtime errors.
  11. In the Deploy to CTE section, input comments to provide details for CTE deployment. Then, click Deploy to CTE.
  12. In the Test this configuration section, select the Did you test this envelope's configuration before you deploy the envelope in the production environment.
  13. To configure the envelope in the production environment, repeat the steps 9 and 10.
  14. Click Deploy to production.
