You can use the BTI Document configuration tool to
create custom mappings of the EDI documents. By configuring mappings, you can define which document
elements to display in the BTI user interface.
For example, if you see that the UPC # / Part # column in an order
milestone does not display the correct information, you might have to configure the Line
identifier 850 EDI mapping using the Document configuration tool.
Before you begin
Only IBM and company administrators can configure documents. General BTI users cannot.
About this task
The document configuration tool is designed to help you facilitate nuances in your trading
partners' EDI data. When your trading partners don’t send a piece of information in the typical EDI
field, you can upload sample EDI documents to the system and use document configuration to adjust
what data is displayed in the UI. Individual custom partner configurations change the way a
document type is mapped for a particular trading partner, while universal configurations change the
way a document type is mapped for all trading partners. You can have one universal configuration per
document type. Individual custom partner configurations take precedence over universal
configurations.
Procedure
-
Select Settings > Document configuration.
-
Upload a new document type (such as an 850) or select an existing type to update.
Tip: If you do not have a document on your local machine to upload, download one from
InFlight.
- Select which document you uploaded that you want to configure.
Warning: Do not configure fields that contain sensitive personal information. The data
can be exposed to users who are not allowed. Payment documents, and perhaps other document types,
might contain these fields. Consider your jurisdiction regulations and user permissions. Business
Transaction Intelligence does not display these fields by default.
-
Select the trading partner where you want to change the mapping.
If you want to make universal changes, select any trading partner. You have the option to
promote the changes universally later.
-
Select the fields you want to edit and click Configure.
When you expand a field name, you will see the BTI default
mappings. For documents that contain loop structures, you might see the word
Loop next to the segment. The Loop identifier is used
to distinguish segments that contain two default locations that would otherwise look the same.
For example, for the Line Currency UI field name, you might see a Loop identifier like the
following
configuration.
Data Location Qualifier Location Qualifier Value Data Value
CUR02 - Loop PO1 <blank> <blank>
CUR02 <blank> <blank>
-
Define the document element mappings for the UI fields.
| Data location |
Qualifier location |
Qualifier value |
| The position of the data in the EDI document. For example, PO111,
represents segment PO1 element 11. |
(Optional) The position of the qualifier element in this segment. For example,
PO110. |
(Optional) The value of the qualifier. For example, VN. |
Tip: Specify the Qualifier location and Qualifier value fields if you want
BTI to complete a check before mapping the data to the UI field.
- If qualifiers are not specified, then BTI takes any value at
the Data location.
- If qualifiers are specified, BTI only takes the value when the
qualifier evaluates to true.
For example, assume you have the following 850 raw EDI
document.

You
want
BTI to map the UI field
Line
identifier to the VN identifier from the EDI (in segment P01).
Here's an example of
configuring the Data location, Qualifier location, and
Qualifier value based on the EDI sample. When you add a new Data
location, the value is initially set to N/A. If the EDI sample contains data at that
location, it will appear after you reload the page. In this example, notice that the Data
value column displays the correct value (886171) from the
EDI.

-
Save your changes.
- Optional:
If you want to promote the custom configuration as your company default mapping, select the
gear icon next to Configure. Select Promote to universal
configuration and click Save.
Restriction:
- Only one custom configuration for a document type can be set as the universal configuration at a
time. For example, you cannot promote two custom configurations for an 856 as the company
default.
- To promote a different custom configuration from another trading partner, you first need to
remove the document type that you promoted. Then you can promote the other custom
configuration.
- To restore the BTI default configuration, remove the document
type that you promoted.
-
To remove a document type that you promoted as a universal configuration:
-
From the main page of the Document configuration tool, select the document type to view all
samples for that specific document.
-
Click the check box for the row that contains a globe (with a check mark inside) by the trading
partner name. The globe denotes that the mapping that was promoted as the universal
configuration.
-
Click Remove.
