Backing up and restoring the IBM Installation Manager

The Installation Manager must be updated regularly. The Installation Manager contains metadata that is needed to install subsequent Fix Packs. If you do not back up Installation Manager, you cannot upgrade. The Installation Manager data agent directory and the shared directory contain information about the products that are installed by using Installation Manager.

About this task

The installation directories must be backed up with the product binary files.

Procedure

To back up the IBM Installation Manager, complete the following steps:

  1. Back up the following directories.
    • Agent Data Location: Directory that IBM Installation Manager uses to record the product installation information
    • Shared Resources Directory: Directory that contains the installation artifacts
    • Installation Manager Registry File: Directory that contains the registry file
    • IBM Installation Manager Installation Directory: Directory of the Installation Manager

  2. Restore the backed up directories, if there is a failure.
