Getting started with Global Mailbox

After you have installed and configured Global Mailbox, there are a few steps to start using the application.

You must plan, deploy, and configure Global Mailbox to meet your business requirements. To get started with Global Mailbox, you must:
  • Define your objectives
  • Plan Global Mailbox based on your objectives
  • Install Global Mailbox
  • Configure Global Mailbox

Define your objectives

A key task to be completed when you are configuring Global Mailbox is to identify the business needs and translate them to business objectives.

The business objectives that you define determine the subsequent planning process. To successfully implement Global Mailbox, you must consider the following questions:
  • What type of trading partners are going to exchange files? Are they in the same company, or are they from many different companies?
  • Where are the trading partners located? How are they dispersed geographically? What regulations apply to these locations? Are there multiple time zones or languages?
  • How critical are the files that are being exchanged? Is it more important that a file be received, even if it is sent multiple times, or is it more important that any file only be sent one time, even if that might mean a file is never received?
  • When are the volumes of file transfers highest, and how much does the volume vary from one time period to another? What are the peak expected volumes? What service level agreements (SLA) apply to your system response time?
  • Which is more important, trading partners always being able to post files for transfer, or immediate delivery when a file is posted?
