Installation launchpad

The IBM® installation launchpad program is the starting point for installing AS4 Microservice. The launchpad is included in the installation package that you downloaded or received on a disk.

The launchpad provides you with a single location to view release information and start the installation process. Use the launchpad to start the installation of AS4 Microservice with the IBM Installation Manager in the following cases:

  • Installing from the product CDs
  • Installing from an electronic image on your local file system
  • Installing from an electronic image on a shared drive

By starting the installation process from the launchpad program, you can install the Installation Manager if it is not already on your computer. The Installation Manager then starts preconfigured with the location of the repository file that contains AS4 Microservice. If you install and start the Installation Manager directly, then you must set the repository file manually.

The launchpad is the preferred way to install AS4 Microservice for the following reasons:

  • If the Installation Manager is not installed, you can use the launchpad to install the Installation Manager.
  • If the Installation Manager is installed, the launchpad starts the Installation Manager with the correct repository file that contains the application software.

IBM recommends that you install or update AS4 Microservice with the launchpad and not a stand-alone installation of the Installation Manager. However, if you have access only to a console and not a Windows interface, you can install or update from a stand-alone installation of the Installation Manager.

If you choose to install AS4 Microservice without the launchpad, be aware of the following issues:

  • You might not have the correct version of the Installation Manager. AS4 Microservice requires the 1.7.0 or higher version of the Installation Manager.
  • You must manually add the repository file to the Installation Manager.
  • You might not use the correct repository file.
