Uploading payload to the Global Mailbox with FTP

Use the PUT commands in the FTP Server adapter to create new messages in the Global Mailbox.

Before you begin

Complete the procedure Accessing Global Mailbox by using FTP.

About this task

Data that is uploaded from an FTP client creates a new storage payload. When you send a payload to a Global Mailbox, the payload is replicated to other data centers. Replication can be immediate or delayed depending on the replication configuration. Users with appropriate permissions to the mailbox can retrieve and view the replicated payload (message) by using the FTP server adapter instance. When the replicated payload is retrieved from one of the data centers, the extraction count is updated.

To upload a payload to the Global Mailbox by FTP:

Procedure

  1. Log in as a user.
Authorization to the directory is from the user permissions for mailboxes in the Global Mailbox. The FTP session begins at the virtual root of the user that logs in.
  2. To go to the directory where you want to upload a file, type CD/[your_upload_directory]
  3. To upload the file, type PUT/[your_upload_file_name]
When an upload begins, a new Global Mailbox message is created, referencing the new storage payload by the unique storage ID. When the upload is complete, the message is appended with the status.
