Deleting a variant

Delete variants of storage buckets that are no longer needed. After a variant is deleted, data objects cannot be retrieved or deleted. A good practice is to retire a variant before you delete it.

About this task

If the storage file system is unavailable, you must use the advanced option parameter (-a) with the command to delete the variant.

Procedure

  1. Navigate to the install _dir\Members\bin directory.
  2. Enter one of the following commands:
    • execute storage -delete
    • execute storage -delete -a
  3. (If using the -a option) At the prompt Suppress Creation of Marker File?, enter one of the following values:
    • y

      Delete the variant when the storage file system is unavailable.

    • n

      Do not delete the variant when the storage file system is unavailable.

    A list of known bucket variants is displayed.
  4. At the prompt Choose storage bucket name, enter the number of the variant that you want to delete.
    A list of service names that are known for that bucket variant on the node is displayed.
  5. At the prompt Choose Service Name, enter the number of the service name that you want to delete.
  6. At the prompt Do you wish to delete the selected variant?, enter y to delete the variant or n to not delete the variant.
