Upgrade scenarios

The way you upgrade IBM® Sterling B2B Integrator depends on your current version and the upgrade type.

Upgrade compatibility

The system displays an alert message on the IIM installation wizard. For more information on the supported upgrade paths, see Upgrade Compatibility matrix.

When you upgrade to a higher version from a lower version, you cannot use that instance as all the defect fixes from the lower version are not available in the higher version.

For an in-place upgrade, the system displays the alert message on the Alert screen and when you upgrade to a new folder, on the Other options page.

Note: This upgrade serves only as an intermediate step before you must upgrade to the latest release of the higher version.
Important: In the GUI mode, for an in-place upgrade of v5.2.5, the alert message is not displayed.

For instance: When you upgrade to 6.0.2 from 5.2.6.3_11, you cannot use that instance as all the defect fixes from 5.2.6.3_11 are not available in 6.0.2. This is because 6.0.2 is released in July 2019 and 5.2.6.3_11 in August 2019.
