Transfer to cloud with Desktop Client, HST Server, or HST Endpoint GUI

You can use the IBM Aspera Desktop Client (freely available), IBM Aspera High-Speed Transfer Server, or IBM Aspera High-Speed Transfer Endpoint GUI to transfer to and from your object storage.

Prerequisites

  1. Obtain a transfer service access key ID and secret from your transfer service admin. These are required to authenticate the connection and transfer to and from your object storage.
  2. Obtain the transfer service URL for your storage type and region from your transfer service Admin.
Note: An AoC admin with the node secret can find the transfer service URL in the Admin app. In the Node > Details page, see the entry in the field labeled Node URL.

  3. Install Desktop Client, HST Server, or HST Endpoint on your computer.

Desktop Client is freely available from the IBM Fix Central website (search for Aspera Desktop Client): https://www.ibm.com/support/fixcentral.

For installation instructions, see the IBM Aspera Desktop Client Admin Guide. If needed, configure your Desktop Client computer's firewall to allow it to connect to the transfer service.

Create a connection to the transfer service

  1. Open the Desktop Client, HST Server, or HST endpoint GUI.
  2. Click Connections to open the Connection Manager window.
  3. Click +.
  4. Select Create a standard connection.
  5. Click New Connection and rename the connection.
  6. For Host, enter the transfer service URL that you got from your admin (see prerequisite 3 in the previous section).
  7. For Username and Password, enter your transfer service access key ID and secret that you got from your admin.
  8. Leave the Storage set to Default.
  9. Click OK.
  10. Confirm that the name of your new connection appears in the list under Connection Name.

Connecting to the transfer service and transferring content

  1. In the Desktop Client, HST Server, or HST Endpoint GUI, the left window shows the local file system and the right window shows a list of connections. Double-click your transfer service connection name, or click the name and click Connect. If the connection is successful, the file system of your object storage is shown in the right window.
  2. To upload content to your object storage from the local file system, go to the target path in the right window, select the content in the left window, and then either click the arrow that points to the right or drag and drop the items into the right window.
  3. To download content to the local file system, go to the target path in the left window, select the content in the right window, and then either click the arrow that points to the left or drag and drop the items into the left window.
