Sending Permissions
This article describes the various permissions in the AoC Packages app. Using the Packages app, workspace members send files and folders to others. Sending in the Packages app is similar to sending an email with attachments.
Sending Permissions
Sending is different than sharing in that you do not set permission on content you send. Your recipient has full access to content you send.
You can always send to fellow workspace users or groups.
If enabled for members of your workspace, you can send to Aspera on Cloud users in outside your workspace and to people who do not have an Aspera on Cloud account. When you send files and folders to such individuals, you have two options:
- You can simply send the package. Aspera on Cloud delivers an email notification that enables the recipient to open an Aspera on Cloud portal that provides access to the package you send.
- You can invite the recipient to become a member of the workspace as you send. Aspera on Cloud delivers an email notification containing a link that enables the user to log in to the workspace to receive the package you sent. The content you sent is available to them in their Packages app inbox, along with any content they are entitled to as a workspace member. That person is now a full member of the workspace, with normal workspace privileges.
If enabled by your administrator, you can send content to a shared inbox.
For more information, see the topic in Packages app: Send and receive files and folders.
Inviting Other Users to Send Content
If enabled by your administrator, you can send a submission link, which generates an email message inviting your recipient to send you content. You can invite the recipient to send to you in either of two ways:
- To yourself as an individual Aspera on Cloud user.
- To a shared inbox for which you have 'Add users' permission.
Shared Inbox Permissions
Shared inboxes are a feature of the Packages app.
You may have one or more of the following permissions to any given shared inbox:
- Send: You can send packages to that shared inbox. Simply click the
To field of the Send files form to see a list of
shared inboxes to which you have Send permission.
If you are not a member of the workspace that hosts the shared inbox, you send to the shared inbox using the AoC submission portal. Access the portal by clicking the link in the email notification the you receive from and AoC user inviting you to send files.
- Receive: You can receive packages sent to that shared inbox. You see the shared inbox in the left panel of the Packages app in your workspace. Click the inbox name to see the packages listing. If you have Receive permission only, you cannot send a package (upload files and folders) to this shared inbox.
- Add users: You can add members to the shared inbox. When you enter the shared inbox by
clicking it in the left panel, you see the Add button in the right panel.
- You can invite people (workspace members, Aspera on Cloud users who are not workspace members, people who do not have an Aspera on Cloud account) to submit content to shared inbox. Refer also to submission link
- You can add users to the shared inbox, granting them the appropriate permissions to it. Adding users to a shared inbox does not make them a member of the associated workspace. If these users do not already have membership in a workspace, they are considered limited users, and are listed as such in the organization user listing.
