Can't access a shared folder

Use this procedure when you can see a shared folder in your Files app but cannot access it.

If instead your shared folder issue is that you have 'unshared' a folder with a user but the user still has access, see User still has access to unshared folder.

On rare occasions, you may see the error message "Unable to load requested folder" when you try to access a folder that has been shared with you:

This screenshot shows a 'toast' error message that contains this message: "Unable to load requested folder. Redirecting to workspace home folder."

When you try to access a folder but the folder is not available, AoC redirects you to the Files app home folder in that workspace. Your home folder is the top level of your Files application in that workspace. If you are a member of the Files app in multiple workspaces, you have a home folder in each workspace.

If you are the person who can't access a folder that you can see, do the following:
  1. In your own Files app, check your permissions on the folder (right-click folder row, select Info); do you have the expected access permission?
  2. Check with the folder owner that the shared folder still exists. The person who shared is listed in subtext on the row of the shared folder.

  3. Ask the folder owner to verify that you are in the list of folder collaborators and that you have the proper access permissions.

The folder owner can click the folder row in their own Files app to display the folder details and collaborators panel. If your name is not there, ask the folder owner to share with you again, being sure to select the desired permissions for you.

  4. Contact your local tech support administrator. Click in the banner and select "Technical support". Provide the URL of the affected folder.
