Give users access to local or cloud storage

Typically, an organization has existing storage that your Aspera on Cloud users need to access. To enable this access, you attach or add a node to your AoC organization. A node can be your own Aspera High-Speed Transfer Server, or can be storage in a cloud provider region. The nodes or storage you attach are in addition to the built-in storage in IBM Cloud that is an automatic part of your Aspera on Cloud subscription.

Once you attach the node, you must make the intended content on the node available to users in the Files or Packages app in a workspace in your org. You do this by administratively sharing a folder on the node to workspace members. When you share as an admin, all admins in your org can manage access and permissions to the folder. This is generally preferable to sharing a folder as a user; in this case, only the user who shared the folder can manage the contents and permissions.

To attach your own HSTS node (org admin credentials required), go to Tether Your Aspera Transfer Server to Aspera on Cloud.

To attach your existing cloud storage (ATS admins credentials required), go to Attach your existing cloud storage.

You can also create one or more access keys to allow access to attached nodes and storage to allow access as follows:For access key details and procedures, see Access keys.

  • You can allow other admins or workspace managers to access and manage specific content on your attached node.
  • You can allow an API client or other integration to access specific content on your attached node.
