Update Aspera for desktop

Aspera encourages using the most up-to-date version of Aspera for desktop. By default, the application automatically checks for updates when started.

Check for updates

macOS:

Go to the Applications folder. Find and open IBM Aspera.
In the navigation bar, go to About.
Click Check for updates. Then, click Install update.

Windows:

Open IBM Aspera. Go to Search from the taskbar and type IBM Aspera.
In the navigation bar, go to About.
Click Check for updates. Then, click Install update.

Linux:

Open IBM Aspera.
In the navigation bar, go to About.
Click Check for updates. Then, click Install update.

Troubleshooting

The following are the steps to manually update Aspera for desktop:

macOS:

Close Aspera for desktop.
Open Finder and go to Applications.
Delete the Aspera for desktop by moving it to the Trash.
In the Finder menu bar, select Go > Go to Folder > ~/Library, find the com.ibm.software.aspera.desktop folder and move it to the Trash.
Download the latest version of the Aspera for desktop and install it.

Windows:

Close Aspera for desktop.
Go to Search from the taskbar and type Add or remove programs.
Find IBM Aspera, and click Uninstall.
Open File Explorer and go to %LocalAppData%.
Delete the com.ibm.software.aspera.desktop folder.
Download the latest version of Aspera for desktop and install it.

Linux:

Close Aspera for desktop.
Uninstall Aspera for desktop by using the package manager tool (depending on the distribution that you are using) to delete the application.
- For the Debian package, open a terminal and run:
```
sudo apt remove ibm-aspera
```
```
rm -rf ~/.config/com.ibm.software.aspera.desktop
```
Download the latest version of Aspera for desktop and install it.
