Use Vendor Insights as a data source in Apptio BI

In Apptio BI , you can report data from the vendors and contract groups (modeled objects) of Vendor Insights . This document highlights differences in reporting that are specific to Vendor Insights .

For the list of dimensions and metrics available from Vendor Insights in Apptio BI , refer to Download the data list .

Create a report in Apptio BI using data from Vendor Insights

You create a report in Apptio BI using Vendor Insights data in a similar way to Costing Standard .

To create a report in Apptio BI , see Create a report . When creating an Apptio BI visualization using Vendor Insights data, apply the following guidance.

image

From the Data Source list, select Vendor Insights .

  1. Verify the dimensions. In the list of dimensions, some dimensions may have the same name (for example, Vendor Name, Vendor Type) but they contain a different value in parentheses. The suffix indicates the dimension group. It distinguishes vendor spend from contract spend data. For example, to display the vendor type for the vendor group, select Vendor Type (Vendors) as the dimension.
  2. Apply the correct dimensions and metrics. When you create a report for contract spend data, only use the dimensions and metrics listed under the contract group in Download the data list . Similarly, when you create a visualization for vendor spend data, only use the dimensions and metrics listed under the vendor group.

For example, the Cost Pool dimension has Contracts listed under the group column. Therefore, the report shows only the cost pool values for the spend available in the Contracts group. It does not list all cost pool values that may exist for all vendors. If only 3 out of 10 contracts had contract spend during the month, then only the cost pools associated with those 3 contracts display in the visualization.

  1. Limit the date range for numeric dimensions. Numeric dimensions (such as Contract Amount) should be displayed with only the following date ranges: This Month, Last Month. If the numeric dimension is displayed using other date ranges, then the value will be multiplied by the number of periods in the selected date range, which leads to an incorrect value for the dimension.
  2. Create a KPI for the entire contract spend. When creating a KPI to display the entire contract spend, no contract-specific dimension can be selected.

To remedy this, use the Filters section:

image

Under MEASURE , select Contract ID .

Under OPERATOR , select is not empty . If a value needs to be entered after the is not empty operator, use a space as the value.

Select Submit .

Unless the contract-specific dimension is selected, the visualization shows the vendor spend by default.

Sample Reports

The following are sample reports created with Vendor Insights data exposed to Apptio BI .
