Connecting to IBM OpenPages with Watson

Complete the connection fields that you see in the App Connect Designer Catalog page or flow editor. If necessary, work with your IBM OpenPages with Watson administrator to obtain these values.

To connect App Connect to an IBM OpenPages with Watson account, select your preferred application type:
  • OpenPages (cloud-hosted or on-premises)
  • OpenPages on IBM Cloud Pak for Data
If you selected OpenPages (cloud-hosted or on-premises), choose your preferred authorization method from the following, or else continue specifying the values in the connection fields.
  • Provide credentials for App Connect to use (BASIC)
  • Provide credentials for App Connect to use (SSL)
Then, specify values in the connection fields for your chosen authorization method or application type:

Table 2. Description of the connection fields
Connection field Description
Endpoint URL The URL of the IBM OpenPages with Watson instance in the format https://<hostname>.
Note: If the Endpoint URL is not the public URL that can be accessed from the global network, then you can use IBM Secure Gateway to access it on the public network. For more information on IBM Secure Gateway, see Getting started with Secure Gateway on the IBM Cloud Docs page.
Username The username to log in to your IBM OpenPages with Watson account.
Password The password for the specified username.
Instance name The unique name of your IBM OpenPages with Watson instance.
Tip: For more information on instance name, see the OpenPages GRC REST API Reference Guide (refer to Addressable space / URI design section) on the OpenPages API documentation page.
Certificate The client certificate content in Base64-encoded (PEM) format. The certificate and key are generated from the personal certificate that is obtained during the IBM OpenPages with Watson account creation.
Tip: For more information on client certificate, see the OpenPages GRC REST API Reference Guide (refer to Security section) on the OpenPages API documentation page.
Key The client certificate key in Base64-encoded (PEM) format. The certificate and key are generated from the personal certificate that is obtained during the IBM OpenPages with Watson account creation.
Tip: For more information on client certificate key, see the OpenPages GRC REST API Reference Guide (refer to Security section) on the OpenPages API documentation page.
Network name (optional) Specifies the name of the network that IBM App Connect on IBM Cloud will use to access your system. Required only if connecting to a system in a private network.

If you have already configured a network in IBM App Connect on IBM Cloud with access to the private network, you can select that network. Otherwise, you need to configure a network (download and configure a Secure Gateway) for use with a private network. For more information about how to configure a network, see Content for App Connect on IBM
CloudConfiguring a private network for IBM App Connect on IBM Cloud®.

Important: Ensure that the Secure Gateway Client has been started. If you need to, you can start the Secure Gateway Client as described in Content for App Connect on IBM
CloudConfiguring a private network for IBM App Connect: Finally, start and configure the Secure Gateway Client.

To connect to a IBM OpenPages with Watson endpoint from the App Connect Designer Catalog page for the first time, expand IBM OpenPages with Watson, then click Connect. For more information about ways to connect to IBM OpenPages with Watson, see Managing accounts in App Connect.

Tip:

Before you use the account that is created in App Connect in a flow, rename the account to something meaningful that helps you to identify it. To rename the account on the Catalog page, select the account, open its options menu (⋮), then click Rename Account.

General considerations

Before you use App Connect Designer with IBM OpenPages with Watson, take note of the following considerations:

  • For Non-GRC objects (Users, Groups, Folders, Profiles, Roles, Permissions, Group users, and User roles), batch extract support is not available as the endpoint does not support pagination. Using the Retrieve operation appearing for these objects, the endpoint returns all records. However, you can only get a maximum of 20 records in the next node based on the framework design.
Example of maximum number of items to retrieve
  • (General consideration) You can see lists of the trigger events and actions that are available on the Catalog page of the App Connect Designer.

For some applications, the events and actions in the catalog depend on the environment (IBM Cloud Pak for Integration or App Connect on IBM Cloud) and whether the connector supports configurable events and dynamic discovery of actions. If the application supports configurable events, you see a Show more configurable events link under the events list. If the application supports dynamic discovery of actions, you see a Show more link under the actions list.

  • (General consideration) If you are using multiple accounts for an application, the set of fields that is displayed when you select an action for that application can vary for different accounts. In the flow editor, some applications always provide a curated set of static fields for an action. Other applications use dynamic discovery to retrieve the set of fields that are configured on the instance that you are connected to. For example, if you have two accounts for two instances of an application, the first account might use settings that are ready for immediate use. However, the second account might be configured with extra custom fields.

Events and actions

IBM OpenPages with Watson events

These events are for changes in this application that trigger a flow to start performing the actions in the flow.

Show configurable events... Events shown by default are pre-configured using optimized connectivity. More items are available when you have configured events that can trigger a flow by polling this application for new or updated objects. For more information about configurable events, see Configuring polled events to trigger flows.
