Using the Chat sessions in IBM watsonx Code Assistant

Use the Chat sessions in watsonx Code Assistant™.

Before you begin

Attention: The IBM® watsonx Code Assistant plug-in was removed from the IBM App Connect Enterprise Toolkit in modification pack V13.0.8. This topic is retained for reference only. If you have an IBM watsonx Code Assistant license, contact IBM to learn how to use IBM Bob with the IBM App Connect Enterprise Toolkit instead.
  1. Read about watsonx Code Assistant as described in Using IBM watsonx Code Assistant in the IBM App Connect Enterprise Toolkit.
  2. Open the watsonx Code Assistant chat view as described in Opening the IBM watsonx Code Assistant view in the IBM App Connect Enterprise Toolkit.
  3. Set up watsonx Code Assistant on IBM Cloud and create an API key as described in Setting up watsonx Code Assistant on IBM Cloud and creating an API key.
  4. Log in to watsonx Code Assistant as described in Logging in to IBM watsonx Code Assistant in the IBM App Connect Enterprise Toolkit with your API key.

About this task

You can use the Chat sessions in the watsonx Code Assistant to enter questions.

Procedure

  1. In the watsonx Code Assistant view in the IBM App Connect Enterprise Toolkit, click Open menu.
    A menu is displayed with the menu items Chat sessions and Prompt library.
  2. Select Chat sessions.
    A Chat session window is displayed. with a title similar to "Chat session 1."
    The following items are displayed in the Chat session window:
    • A button labeled AI. Clicking AI opens the last chat session that you created.
    • A button labeled Chat sessions. Clicking Chat sessions opens the last chat session that you created.
    • A button that is labeled New chat for creating new chat sessions.
    • A list of the Chat sessions that you create. The Chat sessions are displayed in the order that you create them, with the newest session at the start of the list. For each Chat session, you can click Options and select Rename or Delete.
  3. Open a Chat session by using one of the following methods:
    • Open a new Chat session by clicking New chat.
    • Click AI to open the last chat session that you created.
    • Click Chat sessions to open the last chat session that you created.
    • Click one of the Chat sessions in the list to open it.
    • Open a new Chat session from within an existing Chat session by clicking Start new chat session.
  4. Type a question into the Chat session .

    For example, you can type "What can you use IBM App Connect Enterprise for?"
    Your question is displayed in the Chat session under the participant You and the response is displayed under the participant watsonx.

    Other ways that you can use the Chat session are:
    • Type "/" to display a menu of quick commands such as /help, /explain, /document, and more. When you select a command, click >. The Chat session displays an explanation of how you can use these commands in the chatbot. If you type /help, the help information from the logon screen is displayed under the heading "Explore what you can do."
    • Type "@" to reference code from files, classes, and methods in your workspace.

    Within a Chat session , you have the option of starting a new Chat session by clicking +. However, if you continue to work in the same Chat session, the Chat session builds up a memory of questions and code examples that you type in and displays them if you type in a similar question or code example.
