Security guidelines

Following are some of the security-related guidelines for the App Connect for Manufacturing.

Encrypting mapping files

In a toolkit that uses a file-based system, when a message flow is created, it creates mappings between the source and client items, and these mappings files are saved on the computer's hard disk without encryption. These files can then be exported to another machine to either re-create or modify the flows. They are refreshed whenever the message flows are modified and are essential to keep track of the flow's status and for facilitating collaboration.

These mapping files are located here. You can change the directory by using an environment variable.

C:\Users\<user-name>\.acmfg\mappings

You can choose to store these mapping files in the database's storage and use the authentication and encryption techniques that are offered by the database for enhanced security.

Malware

The App Connect for Manufacturing does not include scanning or built-in malware protection features. Therefore, for any file that you use with the application, you must ensure that it is malware-free.

The mapping.json or configuration files can be reused or exported to either re-create or modify the flows. But, during such file transfer, there is a risk of a malware infection. Ensure that you run a comprehensive malware scan before you use such a file.
