Open Platform Communications (OPC) connectivity

Use the features of IBM App Connect for Manufacturing, which are compliant with Open Platform Communications (OPC), to integrate your data sources and App Connect Enterprise application.

OPC is a set of standards that facilitates communication of data between OPC servers, and App Connect Enterprise application (OPC clients). Sensors in data sources collect data and send it to an OPC server. In your OPC client, you specify the data that you want to receive from the OPC server. The OPC server sends that data to an OPC client, where you can use that data.

IBM App Connect for Manufacturing provides an OPC client that receives and processes data from an OPC UA server. For more information about OPC, see OPC Foundation.

OPC UA servers process data that conforms to the OPC Unified Architecture (OPC UA) standard for which IBM App Connect for Manufacturing provides the following nodes:
  • OP-UA-Input
  • OPC-UA-Read
  • OPC-UA-Write
  • OPC-UA-Method-Call
  • OPC-UA-Subscriber
  • Control Send and Control Receive

The data that is emitted by the OPC UA nodes uses Coded Character Set ID (CCSID) 1208 (UTF-8). For more information, see CCSIDs for Unicode Support. If you are using IBM® MQ, you must set a compatible character set on the queue manager.
