Developing integrations by using IBM App Connect Enterprise Designer

You can use IBM App Connect Enterprise Designer to create, test, and export flows.

Before you begin

Install IBM® App Connect Enterprise.

About this task

You can use Designer to create and test flows that include designer connectors, without using the IBM App Connect Enterprise Toolkit and without the need for any coding experience. You can then use Designer to export your flows to your browser's default download directory to make them available for deployment or distribution to other users.

IBM App Connect Enterprise Designer is not multi-user compatible. If you edit the same flow from multiple locations, changes that are made from one location are not reflected when the flow is viewed from other locations.

Overview
Read about the concepts of IBM App Connect Enterprise Designer as described in IBM App Connect Enterprise Designer overview.
Starting IBM App Connect Enterprise Designer
Start IBM App Connect Enterprise Designer by running the Designer command as described in Starting IBM App Connect Enterprise Designer.
Creating accounts for Designer connectors
If you know in advance which connectors you want to use, you can create accounts as described in Creating accounts. Alternatively, if you need to decide which connectors to use during flow creation, you can create the accounts by completing the required step in Creating an event driven flow or Creating a flow for an API.
Creating a flow
If you want to create an event-driven flow, complete the steps in Creating an event driven flow.
If you want to create a flow for an API, complete the steps in Creating a flow for an API.
Creating a flow from a template
If you want to create a flow from a template, complete the steps in Creating a flow from a template.
Importing a flow
As an alternative to creating a flow, you can import a flow that partly meets your requirements as described in Importing a flow.

If you import an event driven flow, you can then edit it by following the required steps in Creating an event driven flow.

If you import flow for an API, you can then edit it by following the required steps in Creating a flow for an API.

Condition filtering
When you create or import an event driven flow, for retrieve or update actions, you can optionally add conditions for the retrieval of the data. For more information, see Using condition filtering with IBM App Connect Enterprise Designer.
Advanced mode
When you create or import an event driven flow, for create actions, you can optionally use advanced mode. For more information, see Using advanced mode with IBM App Connect Enterprise Designer.
Testing flows
While you are creating your flow, you can test individual nodes by using sample data without needing to complete your flow. By testing in this way, you can quickly identify and resolve potential issues as they arise. To test an individual node with sample data, complete the steps in Testing nodes.
When your flow is complete, you can test it with real data to identify any issues, which you need to resolve before you export the flow. You can test an event-driven flow as described in Testing an event driven flow.
You can test a flow for an API as described in Testing an API flow.
Exporting flows
If you plan to deploy your flow to an integration server or distribute it to other users, you can export it from Designer into your browser's default download directory as described in Exporting a flow.
Managing accounts
You can update, remove, or rename your accounts for designer connectors as described in Managing accounts.
