Connecting IBM API Studio to API Manager

Use IBM API Studio to connect to API Manager (APIM), a component of API Connect (APIC), and publish API projects to environments managed by API Connect.

About this task

Note:
  • This procedure applies only to the IBM API Studio desktop application.
  • IBM API Studio supports one-way deployment only. It does not read or display APIs from API Manager, and it does not support importing APIs from API Manager into IBM API Studio.
  • Use API Manager version 12.1.0.0 or later to connect from IBM API Studio.

Procedure

  1. From the home page, click API Studio settings.
  2. Click API Managers > Add API Manager.
  3. On the Add API Manager screen provide:
    • Connection name. Provide a unique name for the API Manager connection.
    • API Manager UI URL. The URI of the API Manager instance you want to connect to.
  4. Click Add, then enter the API Manager authentication details.
  5. When the browser prompts to open IBM API Studio, select Open API Studio.

To allow future launches without prompts, select Always allow, then select Open API Studio.

The new API Manager appears in the list of configured API Managers. If the API Manager URL or authentication details are invalid, the configuration fails and displays an appropriate error message.
Note: If multiple versions of IBM API Studio are installed on the same machine, the authentication process might open a different version instead of the one already running. This behavior can cause multiple IBM API Studio instances to run simultaneously, and changes that are made in one instance may not appear in the other.

To prevent this issue, remove older IBM API Studio versions and keep only one version installed.

What to do next

After you add an API Manager connection, you can manage it from the configured API Managers list.
