Installing the IBM Application Modernization Accelerator Developer Tools plug-in for the Eclipse IDE
Add the IBM® Application Modernization Accelerator Developer Tools plug-in to your Eclipse IDE.
When you install the IBM Application Modernization Accelerator Developer Tools plug-in for the Eclipse IDE, Liberty Tools is automatically installed from the JetBrains Marketplace.
Compatibility
The plug-in is compatible with:
- Eclipse IDE for Java™ Developers or Eclipse IDE for Enterprise Java and Web Developers
- Version 2024-06 and later. For the current supported versions, check the Eclipse Marketplace.
- On Windows, the plug-in requires the Microsoft Edge WebView2 runtime. In newer versions of Windows this runtime might already be installed.
Installing from the Eclipse Marketplace
To install from the Eclipse Marketplace:

Open your Eclipse IDE.

Open the Eclipse marketplace.

Search for
IBM Application Modernization Accelerator Developer Tools. -
Click and drag the Install button into the workspace in your Eclipse IDE.

On the Confirm features page, review the items, then click Confirm.

On the Review licenses page, read the license, click to agree, then click Finish.

On the Software updates page, click Restart Now to apply the software updates.
Installing the plug-in from the Eclipse IDE
To install from your Eclipse IDE:

In your Eclipse IDE, click the Help menu, then choose Eclipse Marketplace.

Search for
IBM Application Modernization Accelerator Developer Tools. -
Click the Install button for the plug-in you need.

On the Confirm Features page, review the items, then click Confirm.

On the Review Licenses page, read the license, click to agree, then click Finish.

On the Trust Authorities page, click the checkbox, then click Trust Selected.

On the Software Updates page, click Restart Now to apply the software updates.

Applying a license key for IBM Application Modernization Accelerator Developer Tools in Eclipse
Before you can use IBM Application Modernization Accelerator Developer Tools in Eclipse, you must establish your entitlement, either by uploading a valid migration plan, or by applying a license key file.
- Uploading a valid migration plan

You can establish your entitlement by uploading a migration plan. This option requires a valid migration plan from IBM Application Modernization Accelerator.

Open the Modernize to Liberty view.

In the Explorer view, right-click an application that you want to modernize and select Liberty.

If you do not have entitlement for IBM Application Modernization Accelerator, a warning message appears at the top of the screen.

Upload a migration plan.

Click Upload migration plan.

Select the migration plan in the file picker and click OK.

Respond to the prompts for decisions in the Modernize to Liberty view to complete the process of modernizing the application.

- Applying a license key file

You can establish your entitlement by applying a license key file.
- Open the Manage License Key panel.

To open the Manage License Key panel in the Eclipse IDE, click .
If you do not have entitlement for IBM Application Modernization Accelerator, a warning message appears at the top of the screen.

If you already have a license key file saved on your machine, click the Manage License Key link.
If you do not have a license key file, click IBM Passport Advantage to download one based on your entitlement. For more information, see Obtaining a valid license key in the IBM Application Modernization Accelerator documentation. Save the license key file to your local computer; it should have a
.licfile extension.

- Apply a license key file.

In the Manage License Key panel, click Browse to locate your license key file (for example, AMA_License_Key.lic).

Select the license key file in the file picker and click OK.
The License key successfully processed message appears at the top of the Manage License Key page.

Click OK.

Securing your setup
IBM Application Modernization Accelerator Developer Tools doesn't provide additional security controls. Use these steps to properly secure your setup.
- Your Eclipse environment

Apply all Eclipse updates to help ensure that you have the latest security and bug fixes.
The IBM Application Modernization Accelerator Developer Tools plug-in work area is located under /.metadata/.plugins/com.ibm.ama.dt/.amadt. This work area might contain files that are not encrypted, other than the encryption that your file system provides. Safeguard the data against improper access.
Using the Console view to see activity details
You can use the Console view of the Eclipse IDE to see details about what the plug-in is doing and logging, and check for any errors.
To open the Output view:

In Eclipse, click Window, select Show View, then click Console.

In the Console view, click the Display Selected Console icon to select IBM Application Modernization Accelerator Developer Tools. It provides more details about what the plug-in is doing.
To adjust the Console view and logging for the Eclipse plug-in:

Open the settings for the Eclipse IDE.

Click the IBM AMA Dev Tools entry.

In Log level, switch from the default of
INFOto another setting such asWARN.
Uninstalling the plug-in
If you need to uninstall IBM Application Modernization Accelerator Developer Tools, follow these steps:

In the Eclipse IDE, click Help, then click Install New Software.

Click What is already installed?.

On the Installed Software tab, select IBM Application Modernization Accelerator Developer Tools, then click Uninstall.

On Uninstall, review the items, then click Finish.

Restart Eclipse. On Software Updates, click Restart Now.
