Configuring the 7852-400 modem

7852-400 modem configuration includes setting up and initializing the modem to work correctly with Electronic Service Agent.

Complete the following procedure to set up and initialize the 7852-400 modem

The DIP switches on the side of the modem are set at the factory. However, you need to ensure that they are set correctly for use with Electronic Service Agent.

  1. Set the DIP switches on the modem as follows:

    Note: Switch 5 is set to the off (down) position to disable automatic answering to meet the security requirement that the modem will not answer. Switch 12 is set to the off (down) position for asynchronous mode.
  2. Connect the RS232 cable to the modem and to a serial port.
  3. Connect the telephone cable (sent with the modem) to the modem connector labeled Line (middle connector), and to the telephone wall jack.
  4. Connect the modem power cable to the modem and the transformer to the wall power outlet.
  5. Power-on the modem using the power switch that is located on the back of the modem.
