Provisioning a Z Development and Test Environment instance

IBM® Developer for z/OS® provides a feature to provision a test instance for z/OS projects connected to the IBM Z Development and Test Environment (ZD&T) Enterprise Edition web server.

About this task

To provision a test environment, you need to perform the following tasks:

Procedure

  1. In the z/OS Projects view, right-click and a menu displays.
  2. Select z/OS Provisioning and then select Create a ZDT test environment in the menu. The Provision a z/OS Test Environment wizard displays.
    1. On the Provisioning Platform and Application Image page:
      • Enter the server URL (https://<ZDT enterprise server>:<ZDT port>). You can use the configuration file of ZD&T Enterprise Edition web server to change it.
      • Enter the User ID and Password configured in ZD&T Enterprise Edition web server.
      • Select one of the listed application images.
      Click Next.
    2. On the Target Systems page, you can either select from the list to use the existing zD&T instances deployed for the selected application image, or click New to create new connections to other target systems.

Select an existing target system to configure its properties.

If you click New to create new connections, complete the following steps:
      1. On the Authentication on the Target page, enter your user ID and password to install ZD&T instance on the target system.
Note: User ID and Password values are different from values you enter on the Set ZD&T Enterprise Edition Web Server Information page.
      2. On the Target Properties page, default values are set according to the REST API response to get the system information on the target system. After changing the values, click Finish to complete the task.
ZD&T deploys the application image to the target system as requested by IBM Developer for z/OS. The deployment process takes 10 to 30 minutes. The RSE connection is created immediately.

Results

The RSE connection for the selected target system is created, with the name of the format: <ZD&T target label>_<ZD&T application image name>.

The ZD&T Enterprise Edition web server deploys a new ZD&T instance for the selected application image.
