How do I create a dimension group?

A dimension group is a set of dimensions that can be displayed in the same report. A dimension must be included in at least one dimension group.

Before you begin

Before you create a dimension group, you must know the name of the dimensions that you want to include in your dimension group.

About this task

  • A dimension group can contain up to five dimensions.
  • A dimension group can be thought of as the parent of the dimensions.
  • An event can be associated with one or more dimension groups.

Use this procedure to create a dimension group.

Procedure

  1. In the Event manager, select New.
  2. Select Dimension group.
  3. Enter the dimension group name.
  4. Click + Add tags to associated tags with this dimension group. Select or enter tag names.
  5. Enter a description.
  6. Click + Dimensions to add dimensions to the group.
  7. Select the dimensions and click Select.
  8. Click Save.

You can create a dimension group called user agent properties. User agent properties dimension group is made of these dimensions:
  • User agent name
  • Screen width
  • Screen height
  • JavaScript support

In this example, the inclusion of the User agent name dimension is useful for combining dimensions into new events.
