Updating the version of your integration runtime

The IBM® product team controls the operator version for App Connect. You can choose the modification release or fix pack version of your locally deployed integration runtimes.

About this task

App Connect is a managed service and the IBM product team maintains and updates it regularly with new features, security updates, and bug fixes. When you're ready to run an integration, you deploy it to an integration runtime. IBM controls the operator version of your runtimes, but you can choose the modification release or fix pack version.
Operator version
IBM controls and updates the operator version of App Connect, which is based on the version of IBM App Connect Enterprise (for example, version 13.0). If you select the operator version for your runtime, rather than a specific modification release or fix pack, the most recent fix pack release is used.

Modification releases
The operator version supports the current and previous modification releases (for example, 13.0.6 and 13.0.5), which contain new features and bug fixes. You can control which of the two available modification releases your integration runtimes use. Fix pack releases
IBM releases security updates in fix packs (for example, 13.0.6.1-r1). You can select a specific fix pack version for your integration runtimes.

The operator version of App Connect always supports the two most recent modification releases. When a new modification release is added, the oldest modification release is removed. IBM publishes a notification before the modification release is updated so that you can plan to update your runtimes. When the IBM product team updates the operator, modification release, or fix pack version, the versions of all integration runtimes are checked. If the version of the integration runtime is behind the minimum supported version for the operator, the integration runtime version is updated to the minimum supported version. If you don't need to control the modification release version of your integration runtime, you can choose the operator version instead (for example, version 13.0). If you choose the operator version, your integration runtime is updated automatically to the most recent modification release version when it is available. By selecting the operator version, you make sure that your runtimes always have the current features and security fixes. To test a new fix pack before you enable it in production, or to roll back to a previous fix pack version, you can control the version yourself.

When you create an integration runtime, you choose the version, but you can edit the runtime to change its version at any time. To change the version of an integration runtime, complete the following steps.

Procedure

  1. Go to the Manage page, then click Integrations.
  2. For each locally deployed runtime that you want to update, open the tile menu and click Edit.
  3. Select the new version for your integration runtime.
    You can select from the following version levels:
    • If you select the operator version (such as 13.0), your runtime is always updated to the most recent fix pack release automatically.
    • If you select the modification release (such as 13.0.7), your runtime uses the most recent fix pack for the specified modification release.
    • If you select the fix pack (such as 13.0.7.1-r1), your runtime uses the specified fix pack release.
  4. Click Save changes.
