IBM Documentation release notes

The IBM Documentation Release Notes are focused on the IBM Documentation platform hosting IBM product documentation, and typically updated every two weeks if the continuous delivery includes major UI and feature changes. You do not need to update your version of IBM Documentation Offline unless the release notes specifically tell you to download a new version.

  • IBM Documentation and IBM Redbooks have launched a pilot program around content discoverability. The IBM Documentation platform continues to add new types of content to its platform, creating a centralized, integrated location for IBM’s technical content. As you know, recent additions include IBM Announcements and Sales Manuals content. And now you can access IBM Redbooks from IBM Documentation.

NOTE: The pilot program contains a subset of IBM Redbooks related to the IBM Z Hardware and IBM Z Software publications.

You can explore IBM Redbooks content on the IBM Documentation platform by:

    • Selecting the “IBM Redbooks” tab at top of the IBM Documentation home page

    • Navigating directly to the IBM Redbooks page on IBM Documentation

    • Exploring the IBM z/OS or IBM Z Hardware product pages and discovering related contextual information (i.e. IBM Redbooks, Product announcements). To discover related contextual content, scroll to the bottom of the left navigation pane to see links to IBM Redbooks, announcements, and sales manuals.

Once you’ve explored a little, we’d really like your feedback. You can leave feedback by:

    • Participating in a short survey

    • Sharing your comments about your experience (navigation, ease of use, search, etc.) within the IBM Redbooks pages by selecting “Thumbs up” or “Thumbs down” to the question “Was this topic helpful?” located at the top of the page. A dialog box will open where you can leave (optional) comments.

Note: The IBM Redbooks site will not be changed in any way during the pilot program.

  • Searching for announcement letters and sales manuals published before 2020. We're meeting the direct requests received from Clients to bring all of IBM's technical documentation into one place. This move will provide increased discoverability on news about IBM's portfolio. As of April 1st, 2023, you'll find Announcement generated from 2020 and forward on the IBM Docs platform. Migration of historical content will happen in phases. Because only 2020-2023 announcements letters are available on IBM Docs. If you need to see an announcement letter that is prior to 2020, contact gasm@us.ibm.com and include the letter number or RFA number and title of the announcement that you want from archive. Below is a list of what's new and what's changed in IBM Documentation the week of March 31, 2023

Enhancements

IBM Announcement Letters and the Sales Manual are moving to the IBM Documentation platform!

We're meeting the direct requests received from Clients - to bring all of IBM's technical documentation into one place. This move will provide increased discoverability on news about IBM's portfolio. As of April 1st, you'll find Announcement Letters generated from 2020 and forward on the IBM Docs platform. Migration of historical content will happen in phases. A key simplification to how Announcements are presented on IBM Docs is the use of a single Letter Number, which covers all geographies.

While we are migrating letters that were published before 2020, Announcement Letters will continue to be hosted on the current Offering site. Some highlights of Announcement Letters on IBM Documentation include the following:

  • Announcement home page: IBM.com/docs/en/announcements that displays recent and previous announcement letters.

Note: If you have had IBM Docs up for several days, you may have to do a forced reload to see announcement home page and letters.

  • Contextual link between announcement letters and product documentation: When you are on a topic in IBM Documentation, if that product has related announcements, an Announcements link is active at the bottom of the left navigation, just below the table of contents. Click on that announcement link to open a single announcement, if only one is available for that product, or a product announcement landing page, if more than one announcement is available for the given product.

  • Ability to search across announcements, filter by announcements, and to search within a date range

  • Auto translation of all announcements letters from 2020-2023 into. Japanese and French.

NOTE: Remember, only 2020-2023 announcements letters are available on IBM Docs. The current announcement letter on the Offering Information Site will continue to host announcement letters until the migration is complete, most likely by the end of April.
