Working with file systems in FSI for the TS7600 ProtecTIER Deduplication Solutions, V3.4.3

Working with file systems when using ProtecTIER for FSI involves tasks such as creating, modifying, and deleting file systems.

Creating a file system

This topic describes how to create a file system.

About this task

When creating file systems, the overall nominal capacity of all FSI file systems together is less than, or equal to, the nominal capacity of the repository.

Procedure

  1. From the Systems Management view of ProtecTIER® Manager, select Create file system from the File system menu.
  2. Type the file system name in the Name field.
  3. Define the maximum size of the file system.
Note: By default, compression and hyperfactor are enabled while the SNMP threshold is disabled.
  4. Click Ok. A new file system is added to the Systems Management navigation pane and the details are displayed in the view pane.

Modifying properties of a file system

This topic describes how to change file system attributes.

About this task

Modify the properties of a file system, such as the file system name, the maximum size of the file system, the Hyperfactor and compression settings, and the SNMP threshold setting:

Procedure

  1. From the Systems Management view, select an existing file system under the File System category in the navigation pane.
  2. Select Modify properties from the File system menu.
  3. (Optional) Type a new name in the File system name: field to change the name of the file system.
  4. (Optional) Type a new value (in GB) in the Maximum file system size: field to change the maximum size of the file system.
    Notes:
    • An informational message displays the maximum file system size that can be defined.
    • It is possible that in order to modify the file system you will be required to change the file system size. When creating the file system, the maximum file system size is set as the configured and as the actual, but over time due to changes in the ProtecTIER dedup ratio the current file system maximum size may decline. If this is the case, you will be required to change the maximum file system size.
Note: An informational message displays the maximum file system size that can be defined.
  5. (Optional) Select a new setting (Enabled, Disabled, or Baseline) from the dropdown list in the HyperFactor: field.
Note: If hyperfactor is disabled, the latest data is not used for deduplication when hyperfactor is re-enabled.
  6. (Optional) Select a new setting (Enabled or Disabled) from the dropdown list in the Compression: field.
  7. (Optional) Select the check box to enable sending an SNMP alert when the file system usage reaches a threshold.
    1. Select the threshold unit type (GB or Percent).
    2. Enter the corresponding values for the upper and lower file system usage threshold limits in the input fields.
  8. When you finish setting the file system usage threshold limits, click Ok to close the window. The new parameters are displayed in the File system view pane.

Deleting a file system

This topic describes how to delete file systems.

About this task

You can delete a file system and all of its data.
Note: Before a file system can be deleted, the user must delete all of the exports and shares. In order to delete a share, the share must not be in use or mapped on a host at the time of deletion.

Procedure

  1. From the Systems Management view, select an existing file system under the File System category in the navigation pane.
  2. Select Delete from the File system menu. A confirm data loss window is displayed.
  3. Type data loss in the Confirm data loss window and click Ok. The file system is deleted from the system.
