Service instance states

Service instances go through many states as you restart, stop, hold, and migrate them.

All service instances have one of the following states, which is taken from the state of the activity that is running under it:
Table 1. Service instance states
State Description
Start The service instance is starting.
Tentative The service instance is starting but has not yet finished initializing.
Run The service instance is running.
Finish The service instance has completed its task and has finished.
Error An error has been detected. Needs manual debugging.
Unknown The service instance has not communicated and its current status is unknown. The execution host is unavailable for some reason. The activity is restarted on a new host if HostFailoverInterval is defined and reached. If HostFailoverInterval is not defined, the execution host will never fail over.
Hold The service instance has been terminated and is being held from restarting on the allocated resource. In this state, the service instance process is terminated, but the corresponding resource is reserved. Must be manually restarted.
Zombie The service instance that was running on an unreachable host has been terminated.
