Deploying databases from database patterns

You can deploy databases by using database patterns with IBM® Db2® with BLU Acceleration® Pattern.

Before you begin

If you have PureData® System for Transactions integrated with Cloud Pak System and you want to deploy a high availability database pattern, you must have a Db2 pureScale® instance deployed on your PureData System for Transactions system.

About this task

When you deploy a database from a database pattern with a Source of Clone from a database image, you must deploy onto the same Platform and OS that was used in the source database image.

Procedure

  1. Click the Workload Console tab at the top of the Welcome page to open the workload console.
  2. Access the database pattern page by using one of the the following steps:
    • On the Welcome page in Working with databases click Create Database Pattern.
    • Click Patterns > Database Patterns.
  3. On the Database Patterns page, choose a pattern from the list.
  4. Click the Deploy icon.
  5. Depending on the database pattern you chose, perform the following steps in the dialog box:
    • If you are deploying a standard availability database pattern, complete the dialog box as follows:
      1. Specify a name for Database name. The name must be no more than eight characters, begin with a letter, and can contain an underscore (_) but no other special characters. (- ? ! * @).
      2. Optional: Specify identifying details in Database description.
      3. Choose IPv4 or IPv6 based on your expected traffic.
      4. Choose Profile, Cloud Group, and other options, if any, from the drop-down menus that are based on your user access rights and assignments.
      5. Optional: Expand Advanced and enter an SSH key or click the Generate icon to generate an SSH key automatically.

An SSH key is required to access the virtual machine for certain administrative tasks. After generating an SSH key, click Download and save the key to your local system to facilitate access to your virtual machine even if the system loses connectivity or encounters problems.

      6. Click OK.
    • If you are deploying a high availability database pattern, complete the dialog as follows. High availability database patterns are available only when you have PureData System for Transactions integrated with Cloud Pak System.
      1. Specify a name for Database name. The name must be no more than eight characters, begin with a letter, and can contain an underscore (_) but no other special characters. (- ? ! * @).
      2. Optional: Specify identifying details in Database description.
      3. Enter a value for the Default user field.

You can either specify a user that exists on the PureData System for Transactions or a new user. The new user is created on the PureData System for Transactions.

      4. Enter a value for the Password field.

If you specify an existing user, the specified password must be the same as that user password on the PureData System for Transactions. If you specify a new user, that new user is created on the PureData System for Transactions and assigned the password that you specify.

      5. Enter a value for the DB2 pureScale instance field. Specify the instance that hosts the database when it is deployed.

You must have deployed a Db2 pureScale instance on the PureData System for Transactions before you can deploy a high availability database pattern.

      6. Click OK.
  6. Choose Instances > Databases to see the database you are deploying in the list of databases. Click the Refresh icon to update the status of this operation in the list. Click your database name and expand the History heading to see the steps of deployment.

Results

A database instance is available when the status in the list of databases is Deployed and the Running icon is displayed.
