Deploying IBM Spectrum Scale virtual patterns

You can deploy the IBM Spectrum Scale virtual pattern in one of several topologies.

You can deploy a IBM Spectrum Scale Server Primary, Mirror, Tiebreaker, or Passive configuration from the virtual application patterns that you created by using one of the available virtual application templates provided with the IBM Spectrum Scale pattern.

You can also deploy your virtual application patterns and virtual system patterns that have application components configured as IBM Spectrum Scale Clients.

Keep in mind the following considerations:
  • All volumes used for your application must be in the same block storage replication relationship.
  • All volumes must be configured for the same synchronous or asynchronous replication setting.

Deploying an Active - Passive configuration

You can follow these general steps to deploy a IBM Spectrum Scale Primary configuration and a IBM Spectrum Scale Passive configuration and associate them to create an Active - Passive replication environment:
  1. Use the Cloud > Volumes page of the console to add block volumes on the system where you are deploying the IBM Spectrum Scale Primary configuration.
  2. Use the Cloud > Volumes page of the console to add the same number and type of block volumes on the system where you are deploying the IBM Spectrum Scale Passive configuration.

Any volumes that you attach must be newly created and cannot have been previously used or partitioned by other entities.

  3. Use the System > Block Storage Replication page of the console to configure block storage replication between each volume pair on the Primary and Passive systems.
  4. Be sure to accept the replication relationship requests on the Passive system.
  5. Deploy the IBM Spectrum Scale Primary configuration.
  6. Deploy the IBM Spectrum Scale Passive configuration.
  7. Associate the Passive instance with the Primary instance to create the Active - Passive replication environment.
