Adding targets
You can add targets to KPI charts and period KPI charts to assess whether the charted values meet expected performance thresholds.
Targets are represented as dotted lines on the chart and provide a visual reference for evaluating results.
Before you begin
Ensure that the chart is a KPI or period KPI visualization that supports numeric target values.
About this task
Targets can be added only to KPI visualizations that display numeric values. You cannot define targets for KPI charts represented as text or tables.
The availability of targets depends on the chart type:
KPI charts
- You cannot define targets if the KPI chart is represented as text or a table.
- You can define one target for linear or radial gauge visualizations.
- You can define multiple targets for bar and stacked bar charts.
Period KPI charts
- You cannot define targets if the period KPI chart is represented as a table.
- You can define multiple targets for line charts, bar charts, stacked line charts, and stacked bar charts.
Procedure
- Open the dashboard that contains the KPI or period KPI chart.
-
From the chart’s overflow menu
, select Edit.
- In the Monitoring tab, locate the Targets section.
-
Click the
icon, and enter a name and numeric value for the target.
- Click Done, and then save the chart and the dashboard.
Results
The defined targets appear as dotted lines on the chart. Each line represents the numeric target value that you entered. As new execution data is processed, the chart updates automatically, allowing you to track whether the KPI meets or exceeds the defined targets.
Use targets to determine whether KPIs maintain expected performance thresholds or meet defined business objectives.
