Example: Installation process

To install the IBM® Engineering Lifecycle Management, you can follow a process that can be used for an evaluation, departmental, or enterprise deployment. The following diagram displays the main steps for the installation.

Planning your environment is critical during the installation process, particularly if you plan to use this installation for departmental or enterprise development. In those cases, make sure that you install Jazz® Team Server in a location that will remain stable. If your installation is for evaluation purposes only, installing in a stable location is less critical. For more details, see Deployment topologies. For departmental and enterprise development, select an appropriate deployment topology and install your Engineering Lifecycle Management applications and the associated Jazz Team Server in a configuration that gives sufficient flexibility for expansion later.

Download the installation files and install the applications. After you install the Engineering Lifecycle Management applications and the associated Jazz Team Server to their respective locations, you set up the databases. Refer to the following table for the applications that can be installed as part of Engineering Lifecycle Management with their context root and their default database names.

The next step is to start the application server for Jazz Team Server and the Engineering Lifecycle Management applications. You might need to start more than one application server, depending on the deployment topology that you selected.

After all of the application servers have started, run the Jazz Team Server express or custom setup wizard. The express setup wizard is a simplified version for use with trial or demo deployment topologies. You can use the express wizard to set up the IBM WebSphere® Liberty basic user registry and default Derby database that is limited to 10 users. The custom setup wizard is used with all other types of production deployment topologies. You can use the custom setup wizard to configure an enterprise database, LDAP user registries, and email notifications. The custom setup wizard also guides you through connecting Jazz Team Server to the applications and the associated databases and data warehouse.

After you complete the steps in the wizard, go to the Admin web client, where you can access Lifecycle Project Administration (LPA) or Admin settings and check the connections from your Jazz Team Server to the applications and databases. Finally, create an initial project and users, and then complete configuration tasks, such as security and user management.
