Creating work items in Quick Planner boards
You can quickly create work items by using Quick Planner. When you create a work item, you can set the attributes by using the attribute icons under the Create a work item field.

When you click in the field, a window opens under it that displays attribute icons. -
Click the attribute icons to set attribute values for the work item.

When you set an attribute, the keyboard shortcut for the attribute is displayed after the summary. Notice how some of the icons change after you set the attribute values.
Note: The Description and Due Date attributes do not have keyboard shortcuts. However, these values are set when you create the work item.Alternatively, instead of clicking the icons, you can type keyboard shortcuts and set values for most of these attributes in the Create a work item field. The following list shows the keyboard shortcuts for the attributes that have a corresponding icon.- Type - *Type

- Severity (defects only) - !Severity
- Tags - #Tag

To display suggestions for all attributes and their values, press Ctrl+Space.
You can also select custom attributes that are created from the project area admin page. For example, for the work item type defect, the user has created a custom attribute Release

Make this attribute a precondition:
When you create a new defect, this attribute appears in the drop-down:Following are the attributes that are supported in quick create:

- You can configure the elements that appear in the Quick Create
menu for a particular work-item type.

In the left navigation pane, hover next to the board name, and click the ellipses that
highlight View properties, and click Board settings &
Sharing:

On the Board settings & sharing page, scroll down to see the Quick Create attribute section:

Quick Create can display up to 27 attributes.

You can remove attributes that appear in the Quick Create menu for a
particular work-item type. For example, you can remove several attributes from the
Defect work item type. When you next open the Quick
Create menu, the removed attributes no longer appear.

If you have created custom attributes for work items, you are able to add them to the
Quick Create menu. For example, create the Release
custom attribute for the Defect work item type:

The Release custom attribute now appears in the Quick Create menu and you can add it:

When you return to the Quick Create menu, the new attribute is available for you to choose:

- Click Create.
- After you create the work item, you can edit the work item fields in Quick Planner. You
can click the Summary field, and edit the work item summary:

- You can also enhance the Description field by using the extended
set of rich-text capabilities:

After you create the work item, you can add new or existing child work items from the Child
Task Breakdown view. To display this view, click the Open child task
breakdown icon
that is included in the list of quick access actions for the work item: The child work item
opens in a new window. 
The type of the child work item depends upon what is configured in the project area configuration.
- If you configure the default child work item type in the project area editor, then when you open child task breakdown in Quick Planner, the child work item type is determined by what is configured for the parent work item type.
- If the default work item type is not configured, then it defaults to the Task work item type, if the type exists. If the project does not have a work item type with the id Task, then it selects the first work item that is defined in the project.

You can also remove the child-parent dependency in a work item by dragging the child work item from inside the hierarchy to the root level of the lane, thereby breaking the parent-child relationship.

You can move a work item from one lane to another by dragging the work item. The state of the
work item changes to the state of the new lane. If the state changes to
Resolved or Closed, Choose a
resolution dialog appears. Select the resolution and click
OK.
Linking artifacts across products: To link a work item from Quick Planner to another work item, a test artifact in IBM® Engineering Test Management, or a requirement artifact in IBM Engineering Requirements Management DOORS® Next, you can use the copy option:- To copy a work item link, click the Copy link icon
. To copy multiple links,
select the work items and click the Copy link icon. You can then paste the
copied links in the target artifact to create OSLC links. 
- To copy a link by using keyboard shortcut, select one or more work items and press the following
keys:
- For Windows or Linux, Ctrl+C
- For Mac, Command+C
For more information, see the related information section.Restriction: When you create an OSLC link by using drag or copy link method, you cannot do the following:- You cannot paste a link in the Quick Planner.
- You cannot create links when the source and target artifacts are viewed in different browsers. The target artifact must be viewed in a tab or window of the same browser as the source artifact.
- You cannot create links if the user-selected Configuration Context in the source is not the same as the configuration in the target application.
