Lesson 2.3: Request a lab resource

In this lesson, in the software tester role, you learn how to request specific updates for a lab resource from the test manager (Tammy), and then have her reserve the resource for you.

About this task

To create a request for a lab resource:

Procedure

  1. If you are still logged in as Tammy, log out, and then log in as Tanuj, the tester. Type tanuj for the user ID, and tanuj for the password.
  2. Click Lab Management > Create > Request. The Create Request editor opens.
  3. In Priority, select the priority of the request. Select High.
  4. In Respond by, type the date by which you must have a response from the lab manager about this request. For this tutorial, select the date of tomorrow. The request might not be filled by this date, but you can select a date for the lab manager to acknowledge receiving the request.
  5. Click <Click here to enter a description>, and type a description of the lab resource that you require. Type I need a machine with Linux. This field is required. The remaining fields on the New Request page are optional.
  6. In the Reservation section, type the start and end dates and times for which you require the lab resource.
  7. In the Lab Resources section, click the Add from Test Environment icon (Copy). Select BetaTest and click OK. Notice that the two lab resource descriptions that are defined in the BetaTest test environment are displayed.
  8. Click Save, and then click Submit. The request is sent to the lab manager.
