IBM® Sterling™ Call Center enables you to manage classification of items, attributes, and values suited to your business needs.

Define an item classification
You can use item classifications for tasks such as sourcing, associating services, determining shipping preferences, and so on. By defining an item classification, you can identify an item attribute as having a specified use in IBM Sterling Order Management System Software.

You can view existing classifications in order to manage them. You can view the corresponding description, associated field, and purposes subscribed to a classification.

Managing the assignment of items in context of classifications involves, assigning an Item to a Classification, moving an Item from One Classification Value to Another Classification Value, and removing an Item from a Classification.

You can assign items to a classification in order to classify the items in the corresponding catalog from the Classification Management screen.

Managing attributes in the context of classifications involves, assigning an Attribute to a Classification, assigning a Usage to an Attribute in a Classification, and removing an Attribute from a Classification.
Assign an attribute to a classification
An attribute is an inherent characteristic of an item. You can assign an attribute to a classification so that all the items in the classification can be assigned the common attribute. You can manage attributes in the context of classifications only if you have selected the Distinct Attributes classification purpose when defining the purposes for the classifications.

You can assign a usage to an attribute to specify about how the attribute will be used in a classification.

You can assign a usage to an attribute in a classification that has been assigned the classification purpose of either Specifications, Searchable Attributes, or Item with Variations.

You can remove an attribute from a classification if you do not want items in the classification defined by this attribute.
Define inheritable attribute fields
You can define inheritable attribute fields in a classification. These are fields that are inherited by the items in the corresponding classification.
Delete a classification value
You can delete a classification value that is not required to be associated to the item attribute in the item master catalog. When a classification value is deleted, all the child classification values are also deleted.

You can delete a classification if you no longer require that classification to be associated with the master catalog.
