Add or edit subscription

Use this page to add or edit a subscription. Setting up subscriptions enables you to monitor entities and determine which entities are currently being monitored.

You can access the subscription edit page in any of the following ways:
  • Select one or more documents or metadata types in a collection using the Select check boxes, then click Subscribe. This allows you to add a subscription to several documents or metadata types at the same time.

  • Click My Service Registry > My Subscriptions > subscription_name to open an existing subscription. The My Subscriptions collection is based on the user ID of the user who is currently logged in, and is therefore empty if security is disabled. In this case, switch to the Administrator perspective and click My Service Registry > All Subscriptions > subscription_name.

  • For Administrators only, if security is enabled, click My Service Registry > All Subscriptions > subscription_name to open an existing subscription.

  • Click My Service Registry > My Subscriptions in the navigation tree, if you have this displayed, and then click subscription_name to open an existing subscription. The My Subscriptions collection is based on the user ID of the user who is currently logged in, and is therefore empty if security is disabled. In this case, switch to the Administrator perspective and click My Service Registry > All Subscriptions > subscription_name.

  • For Administrators only, if security is enabled, click My Service Registry > All Subscriptions in the navigation tree and click subscription_name to open an existing subscription.

A subscription contains the following details.

Name
Specifies the name of the subscription. This is a required input field. If you are subscribing to multiple entities, a separate subscription is generated for each entity, with an incremental integer value appended to the name. For example, if you subscribe to three documents and specified a name of MySubscription, three subscriptions will be created named MySubscription:1, MySubscription:2, and MySubscription:3.
Description
Specifies the user-provided description of the subscription.
Owner
Specifies the user ID of the current owner of this subscription. Typically, this is the ID of the user who created the subscription initially.

When you are creating a new subscription, the field is blank until the subscription has been created. For an existing subscription, if WebSphere® Application Server security was not available when the subscription was created then the owner is shown as UNAUTHENTICATED; in this scenario, no user has been authenticated so there is no owner user ID to display.

Destination address
Specifies the destination address for subscription notification messages. In many cases this will be the user's email address. You must prefix the destination address with "mailto:"; for example, "mailto:user1@uk.ibm.com".
Classifications

Specifies the list of possible classifications for the notification to occur. Notifications are generated only if the object is classified with either a classification specified explicitly in the list, or a classification derived from a parent classification specified in the list. Click Add to open the classification browser page, in which you can select the required classifications.

Entity list
Specifies the entities for which the subscription is being created. This field is displayed if you are creating a new subscription based on one or more selected entities in a collection.
Target entity
If you are creating a new subscription from either the My Subscriptions or All Subscriptions view, this provides Name, Namespace, Version and Classifications fields for you to specify the target entity matching criteria; all entities that match the name, namespace, version and classifications given will apply to this subscription (if left empty, then all entities will match).
If you are editing an existing subscription based on a selected entity, a Show Entity button is provided, enabling you to display the details of the entity.
If you are editing an existing subscription based on target entity matching criteria, the corresponding Name, Namespace, Version and Classifications values are displayed and, provided that at least one of the fields is not empty, a Show Entity List button is provided, enabling you to display a list of all the entities that match the given criteria.
This field is not displayed if you are creating a new subscription based on one or more selected entities in a collection.
Operations
The following operations generate events that trigger a notification:
  • Create
  • Update
  • Delete
  • Validate
  • Make governable
  • Remove governance
  • Transition
Additionally, the transition operation can be further narrowed by selecting the transitions to monitor from the list. The list of transitions is generated from the current governance lifecycle installed on the system.

Specify the operations for which you want notifications by selecting one or more of the check boxes.

Transitions
Specifies the transitions that will be monitored. To monitor transitions, select the Transition check box, then select the transitions you want to monitor.
Preferred notification message language
Specifies the language in which you want to receive notification messages. Select the required language from the list of available language in the list.
