General help

You can use the WebSphere® Service Registry and Repository (WSRR) web user interface to use and manage all aspects of WSRR from a compatible web browser. The web user interface is configured as a standard part of the WSRR installation.

Starting the web user interface

To start the web user interface, enter the following URL into the address bar of the web browser:
http://hostname:port/ServiceRegistry

where hostname is the IP address or host name of the WebSphere Application Server that is hosting the WSRR application, and port is the server port number.

If you have multiple instances of WSRR deployed, you must identify the instance by specifying its prefix, for example:
http://hostname:port/prefixServiceRegistry
Where prefix is the WSRR Instance Prefix that you specified when you created the instance.
The default port number is 9080, but this might be different in your environment if the WebSphere Application Server installation is not using the default port assignments, or if a web server mapping is being used. If you have access to the WebSphere Application Server administrative console, you can confirm the correct port number as follows:
  • Log on to the WebSphere Application Server administrative console.
  • Click Servers > Server Types > WebSphere application servers > server_name > Ports.
  • Look for the port value of WC_defaulthost.
If, however, the WebSphere Application Server security settings are such that you do not have access to the administrative console, then you must contact your site administrator to determine the port number.

Depending on whether the WebSphere Application Server has security turned on, a login panel might be presented before the welcome page is shown.

Note: WSRR does not support sharing the same browser session to multiple browsers or browser tabs. Attempting to share the same browser session to multiple browsers or browser tabs can result in unpredictable behavior.

Quick search

Use the quick search field at the upper right of the display pane to find any type of object stored in the registry. The search is performed on the entire registry by using an exact-case match on the text entered. It is matched against the name and description properties of any object. The text is used as a partial match; for example, a search for "Echo" will return both "Echo.wsdl" and "MyEcho". You can specify an asterisk (*) in any part of the search text to denote that any number of other characters are permitted to occur at that position in the search results.

The WSRR web UI provides an optional Auto-Suggest feature. If you enable this feature, then, when you enter text in the quick search field, you are presented with a list of matching suggestions from which you can select your search string. The list consists of all the objects in WSRR with names that begin with the text you have typed; the text matching is not case-sensitive. You can enable Auto-Suggest, and set a range of Auto-Suggest options, in My Preferences (see the Related link for details).
Note: If Auto-Suggest is enabled, the search is performed by using an exact match on the search text, not a partial match.

Actions menu

Use the Actions menu to perform any of the following actions:
  • Load new documents into the registry.
  • Start the query wizard to perform selected queries against objects stored in the registry.
  • Import objects into the registry. Only files generated by the export facility can be imported back into the registry; no other file formats are supported.
  • Work with your user interface preference settings.
  • Create or modify subscriptions; with subscriptions, you can monitor changes to objects in the registry.
  • Work with saved searches.
  • Work with the objects you have previously selected as your favorites.
