Tutorials for the service management profile

These tutorials provide step by step instructions, with explanations, to show you how to use the service management profile to manage services in your SOA environment.

An important requirement for SOA governance is to identify the key roles involved in the SOA service development lifecycle, what they must do, and their decision rights. These tutorials use the following service management profile roles:
  • SOAGovernance
  • Development
  • Operations
For further information about the service management profile roles, see Roles in the service management profile.
Assumptions:
  • These tutorials and their lessons assume that you use the WebSphere® Service Registry and Repository (WSRR) dashboard. Most of the steps will be completed by using the dashboard.
  • These tutorials assume that you are familiar with the WSRR web user interface. This assumption is relevant if you need to check whether the service management profile is active, and if you want to optionally configure the WSRR promotion feature so that the service in the tutorials is actually promoted to a staging and a production registry when approved for staging deployment and production deployment. For further information, see Setting up the tutorials.
  • These tutorials assume that you are familiar with the WebSphere Application Server administrative console. This assumption is relevant if you have security enabled, and want to add more realism to the tutorials by creating a separate user ID for each of the documented roles. For further information, see Setting up the tutorials.
  • The instructions in this tutorial assume that you are using a Firefox browser, but other browsers can also be used.

The tutorials form a sequence. If you want to carry out all the tasks, complete the tutorials strictly in the order shown. However, you can also examine a specific tutorial for reference purposes.
