Graphical view

This view shows objects and relationships graphically. Use the graphical view to navigate to related objects, and to add properties, relationships and classifications to one object, or to multiple objects at the same time. Adding to favorites, exporting and subscribing are also available as actions in the graphical view.

Navigating

In a collection view, click the Graph icon on the line for the required object to start generating the graph.

Alternatively you can click the name of the WSDL document to view the details. In the detail view you click Graphical View under Relationships.

You can follow the graph to find related objects.
  • To view more of the graph, move the scroll bars or the Viewing Window.
  • Alternatively click and hold on the background, and move it in any direction.
  • Hover the cursor over an object or a relationship to see the details.

Options

Use the options in the pane on the right to generate and view the graph in different ways.

Object Display Mode
Choose which objects or relationships to display in the graph. The graph view shows the logically derived objects such as port type, port, and binding related to a WSDL file, as well as the external relationships to other WSDL documents and XML schema definition documents. The derived objects are shown as boxes drawn with dotted lines.
You can select:
  • All Objects (the default)
  • Derived Objects
  • External Relationships
Graph Display Depth
This can be changed to limit the number of relationships that are displayed in a chain of objects. You can use this to accelerate the generation of the graph or to restrict the size of the graph to fit on the screen. Click the button for the number of levels required. Click the Unlimited button if you want to include all the related objects.
Orientation
This can be changed to help to fit more of the graph on the screen in some circumstances. Select Vertical to change the orientation from the default Horizontal.
List
Click List to display a concise list of the objects in the graph. You can hover the cursor over the list items to see the details. You can also select objects in the list. They are highlighted in the list and in the graph. You select objects to perform some of the available actions.
History
Click History to display a list of the previous graphs you have viewed. You can navigate back to a previous graph by clicking its name in the history list.

Available Actions

Use the Available Actions for objects you select in the graph.

Re-focus Graph

Create a new graph focussed on a different object.
  1. Click the required object to select it.
  2. Click Re-focus Graph to generate a new graph.

Go to Details

View the details for an object.
  1. Click the required object to select it.
  2. Click Go to Details. This displays the detail view for the object.
  3. To return to the graph, click Graphical View in the breadcrumb trail at the top of the pane in the detail view.

Add properties

  1. Click one object to select it, or press the control key (Ctrl) and click multiple objects to select them.
  2. Click Add Properties.
  3. Specify a name and a value.

Adding a property to an object allows you to enter a new property with a name/value pair. Properties must be unique on a specific object and cannot be created with the same name as an existing user-defined or modelled property. If you create a property on multiple objects selected in the graph view, then the same property name and value will be added to all the selected objects.

  4. Click OK or Apply to save your changes.

Add relationships

Adding a relationship to an object allows you to relate the object to one or more target entities in the registry.
  1. Click one object to select it, or press the control key (Ctrl) and click multiple objects to select them.
  2. Click Add Relationships.
  3. Supply the information required in the relationship wizard.

Each relationship created must be given a name that is unique for the object on which it is being created; this includes uniqueness in user-defined and modelled relationships. The relationship wizard guides you through building up a query to generate a list of target objects to apply to the relationship. The possible queries are the same as for the stand-alone query wizard accessible from the Actions button of the menu bar or the Queries section of the navigation tree, if you have this displayed. Adding targets to a relationship is optional so it is permissible to create a relationship that has an empty list of target objects.

Note: If an object has a user-defined relationship to itself, this relationship will not be displayed in the graphical view.

Add classifications

Add a classification to, or remove a classification from, an object or several objects.
  1. Click one object to select it, or press the control key (Ctrl) and click multiple objects to select them.
  2. Click Add Classifications. This displays a classifications pane that shows the list of classifications currently applied to the object and allows you to add and remove classifications from that list.
  3. To add a classification to the list:
    1. In the classification tree, select the classification to be added.
    2. Click Add >>>. The classification is added to the classification list (if it is not already there).
  4. To remove a classification from the list:
    1. Highlight the classification to be removed in the classification list. The details of the highlighted classification are shown at the bottom of the screen.
    2. Click Remove. The classification is removed from the list.
  5. Click OK or Apply to save your changes.

Add to favorites

This action allows you to build up your own personal list of favorite objects.
  1. Click one object to select it, or press the control key (Ctrl) and click multiple objects to select them.
  2. Click Add to Favorites.

This system provides a quick way to find frequently used or hard-to-find objects in the registry without having to remember how to navigate to the object through the modelled views. The list of favorite objects is stored as a cookie in your browser, so the browser must be configured to enable the use of cookies when accessing the WSRR web user interface. Note also that the number of objects stored in the favorites list is limited by the maximum permissible size that a cookie can be for your browser.

Export

This action allows a document or concept object to be exported to a file on your local file system.
  1. Click one object to select it, or press the control key (Ctrl) and click multiple objects to select them. Note that you cannot export derived objects.
  2. Click Export.
  3. Specify a location for the exported file or files.

The exported file contains sufficient information to allow the original object to be completely reconstructed with all properties, relationships and classifications preserved. The file can be imported into the registry using the import wizard accessible from the Actions button of the menu bar or the Administration section of the navigation tree, if you have this displayed. Note that if the original object still exists in the registry, then the import will fail because this will create a duplicate object.

Subscribe

This action allows you to subscribe to events generated for the object or list of objects selected in the graph view.

The subscription system allows you to be notified by email for the events you are interested in. There are seven operations that generate events: Create, Update, Delete, Validate, Make governable, Remove governance, and Transition. Additionally, the Transition operation can be further narrowed by selecting the transitions to monitor from the list. The list of transitions is generated from the current governance lifecycle installed on the system.

Where a subscribe action is being applied to multiple objects, then a separate subscription record will be created for each object in the selection, but the subscription events will be identical for each one.

  1. Click one object to select it, or press the control key (Ctrl) and click multiple objects to select them.
  2. Click Subscribe.
  3. Specify a name, optionally a description, a destination address for subscription notification messages, and at least one operation.
  4. Click OK or Apply to save your changes.
