Asset filters in IBM Support Insights
An Administrator can add and modify custom asset filters used for narrowing down visibility over the client's inventory data. This functionality can be utilized to limit specific user's access to a specific portion of the overall inventory. The asset filters are applied across the application.
Asset filters function much like global filters with the main difference being that global filters are set by the user, whereas asset filters are set for the user (by an account administrator).
To access the asset filters' setup page, select the Asset filters option in the left-hand side menu.
Here you can see the asset filters that exist in your client's account. If no asset filter were previously created, the page will look like the above screenshot. If there already are existing filters - you will be able to see them in a table format.
Creating an asset filter
In order to set up an asset filter in your client's account, you
need to first click on the Add filter button, located
on the right-hand side of the page. This will open the asset
creation (and edit) dialog window.
On the first window screen, you need to give your asset filter a name - that is a mandatory field. You may also include a description of the filter, but that field is not mandatory.
After you have populated the name, and optionally the description, you can click on the Next button located at the end of the dialog window.
The next dialog page is where you set up the actual filtering of
the client's inventory. Initially, you can see the entire
inventory, and here you can select the criteria, based on which
only the specific subset of assets you wish will be displayed in
the application. The workflow is identical to setting up a filter on any table
across the application. You need to click on the Add
filter button and proceed with the filtering criteria
selection. When ready, click on the Apply filter
button.
Now you are only seeing the inventory subset that you have chosen by applying the filter itself. If this is indeed the assets portion you would like to have available - click on the Next button located at the end of the dialog window. If you wish to make modifications to the filtered view, you may do so prior to clicking Next of by editing the filter after it has been created.
The next, and last, page of the asset filters set up dialog window is the Summary page, where you can verify the details of the filter - its name, description, and filtering criteria. Once you have validated that the filter matches your goals and expectations, you can click on the Confirm button, which will close the dialog window and create the asset filter itself. However, if you wish to make changes prior to creating the asset filter, you may click on the Previous button and return to the previous set-up screen.
Once created, the filter is available on the main Asset filters page, and you will see a small banner on top of the filters table to indicate the successful creation of the filter:
After it has been created, the filter can then be applied to users in order to limit their view of the client's inventory wherever necessary.
Editing an asset filter
If you wish to modify an existing asset filter, you may do so by clicking on the pencil button located at the far right-hand side of the filter's row.
Once you click on the icon button, the asset filter edit dialog window will be opened. The dialog is identical to the one used for creating the filters. You may not edit the name of the filter, but you can modify all of its other properties.
Deleting an asset filter
If you wish to delete an existing asset filter, you may do so by clicking on the bin icon located on the far right-hand side of that filter's row.
Clicking the icon button will open a pop-up dialog window asking
you for confirmation on the deletion of the asset filter. Once you
click on the Delete button - the filter will be
removed. You will also see a banner on top of the filters table to
indicate the successful removal of the filter you have chosen to
delete.
