Prerequisites
Before you use COBOL Upgrade Advisor for z/OS®, ensure all of the prerequisites are met.
CUAZ includes an Installation Verification Program (IVP) to verify that the CUAZ server component and prerequisite PTFs are correctly installed.
Workstation prerequisites
- Visual Studio Code (VS Code) 1.93 or later
- Zowe™ Explorer VS Code extension 3.1.1 or later
- One of these operating systems (must be a version supported by VS Code 1.93 or later):
- Windows
- macOS
- Linux
- To use the AI capabilities in CUAZ, you must install one of the following AI code assistants:
- The watsonx Code Assistant® for Z extension in VS Code
- IBM Bob™ IDE 2.0.1 or later, with the COBOL Upgrade Advisor extension installed
- To use CUAZ in agent mode and access the CUAZ MCP tools, install IBM Bob IDE 2.0.1 or later.
IBM Z prerequisites
- IBM z/OS 2.5, 3.1, or later on any supported hardware
- z/OS PTFs (including Language Environment and Binder):
- z/OS 2.5: PTF UI99295
- z/OS 3.1: PTF UI99296
- One of the following z/OS services:
- IBM Remote System Explorer (RSE) for z/OS
- IBM z/OS Management Facility (z/OSMF)
- IBM z/OS FTP server
Note: To use the FTPS z/OS service (zftp profile), ensure you have installed the IBM z/OS FTP for Zowe™ Explorer VS Code extension.
- IBM Open Enterprise SDK for Python 3.8 or later
Connecting your Zowe profile with z/OS
To use Zowe to open and edit files directly from z/OS MVS or z/OS UNIX, you must have the Zowe client software and either IBM RSE API or z/OSMF configured. For more information, refer to Installing and updating Zowe Explorer and VS Code Extension for Zowe. Once installed, follow the instructions at Interacting with z/OS so that data sets can be found and accessed.
