Devices

Use the Devices step to add data acquisition devices and plant equipment, and to map plant devices to their corresponding data acquisition devices.

About this task

The Devices step defines the physical equipment installed at the plant and how operational data is collected from that equipment. In this step, you first add data acquisition devices, such as gateways or data loggers, that receive telemetry from the plant. You then add plant devices, such as inverters, meters, string monitoring boxes, strings, and weather monitoring systems. After devices are added, you map plant devices to the appropriate data acquisition devices so that Maximo® Renewables can ingest and interpret data correctly. You must complete device mapping before you can proceed to later onboarding steps, such as device metadata and device parameters.

Procedure

  1. Add data acquisition devices
    1. In the Devices step, review the Data acquisition devices section. If no devices are listed, a message indicates that no data acquisition devices have been added yet.
    2. Click Add data acquisition device.
    3. Note: In case the Device category does not include the category of device you wish to add, please reach out to IBM Maximo Support
      In the Add data acquisition device panel, select a Device category.
    4. Enter the Quantity for the selected device category.
    5. Click Add to create the data acquisition devices. The added devices appear in the Data acquisition devices list.
  2. Add plant devices
    1. In the Device section, review the list of plant devices. If no devices are listed, a message indicates that no devices have been added yet.
    2. Click Add device.
    3. In the Add device panel, select the Device category, Manufacturer, and Model.
    4. Enter the Quantity for the device.
    5. Click Add to add the devices to the list. A confirmation message indicates that the devices were added successfully.
    6. Repeat these steps to add all required plant devices, such as inverters, meters, string monitoring boxes, strings, and weather monitoring systems.
  3. Map devices
    1. In the Device mapping section, review the available data acquisition devices and plant devices.
    2. Select a data acquisition device to map plant devices to it.
    3. Specify the number of plant devices associated with the selected data acquisition device.
    4. Click Update to save the mapping.
    5. Repeat the mapping steps until all plant devices are mapped. A confirmation message indicates when devices are mapped successfully.
  4. Click Next to continue to the Device metadata step.
