The BESS Analytics portfolio dashboard provides comprehensive monitoring and analysis of battery energy storage system performance across multiple sites, including portfolio-level KPIs, loss distribution analytics, and site-level performance comparison.

Overview

The BESS Analytics portfolio dashboard enables operations managers to monitor and optimize battery energy storage system operations across their entire portfolio. The dashboard consolidates performance data from multiple sites into a single view, providing visibility into energy metrics, efficiency, state of health, availability, and loss distribution. By analyzing portfolio-level trends and comparing site performance, you can identify optimization opportunities, detect performance issues early, and make data-driven decisions to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs.

The dashboard supports comprehensive portfolio management workflows including performance monitoring, loss analysis, multi-site comparison, and trend identification across time periods.

Accessing the portfolio dashboard

From the BESS Analytics section, navigate to the Portfolio Performance page. The dashboard displays portfolio-level metrics, followed by loss distribution visualizations and site-level performance tables. Use the date range picker and site selection filters to focus your analysis on specific time periods or locations.

Portfolio performance overview

The dashboard displays KPI cards that provide quick insights into overall portfolio performance. These metrics aggregate data across all selected sites and update automatically when you change date ranges or site selections:

Total percentage energy (MWh)
Shows the total energy throughput across the portfolio, including both charging and discharging energy. This metric helps you understand the overall scale of portfolio operations and energy flow.
Net percentage energy (MWh)
Displays the net energy that is delivered by the portfolio after accounting for losses. This metric indicates the actual usable energy output and helps you assess overall portfolio effectiveness.
Overall RTE efficiency (%)
Shows the portfolio-wide round-trip efficiency, which is calculated as the ratio of energy discharged to energy charged. This key metric indicates how effectively the portfolio converts stored energy and helps you identify efficiency improvement opportunities.
State of health (SOH) (%)
Displays the average state of health across the portfolio, indicating battery degradation levels. This metric helps you plan maintenance activities and assess remaining battery life.
Total percentage capacity (MW)
Shows the total power capacity available across the portfolio. This metric helps you understand the maximum power output capability of your battery systems.
Net percentage capacity (MW)
Displays the net available capacity after accounting for degradation and operational constraints. This metric indicates the actual usable power capacity for operations.
Availability efficiency (%)
Shows the percentage of time that battery systems are available for operation. This metric helps you assess system reliability and identify availability issues that may require attention.
Total cycles count
Displays the total number of charge-discharge cycles that are completed across the portfolio. This metric helps you track battery usage and plan maintenance based on cycle life expectations.

Loss distribution visualization

The loss distribution section provides an interactive pie chart that breaks down energy losses by category. Understanding where losses occur helps you identify optimization opportunities and prioritize improvement efforts.

The pie chart displays the following loss categories:

  • Charging losses—energy that is lost during the charging process
  • Discharging losses—energy lost during the discharging process
  • Idle losses—energy lost when batteries are not actively charging or discharging
  • Auxiliary losses—energy consumed by auxiliary systems such as cooling, heating, and control systems
  • Other loss categories—additional losses not classified in the main categories

Each segment of the pie chart shows both percentage contribution and absolute values in MWh. Hover over any segment to display a detailed tooltip with exact values and additional context. Click on a segment to drill down to a detailed view showing which sites or time periods contribute most to that loss category.

Loss distribution tabular view

Below the pie chart, the loss distribution table provides detailed data for each loss category. The table includes columns for loss distribution category, loss type, loss value in MWh, and percentage contribution to total losses.

The table supports comprehensive data analysis capabilities:

  • Sort by any column to identify the largest loss contributors or highest percentage losses
  • Filter and search data to focus on specific loss categories or types
  • Export data to CSV or Excel format for further analysis or reporting
  • Navigate through paginated results when viewing large datasets

Use this table to quantify losses precisely, compare loss categories, and track changes over time as you implement optimization measures.

Site-level performance metrics

The site performance table enables you to compare performance across multiple sites in your portfolio. Each row represents a site and displays key performance metrics that help you identify the best performers, detect underperforming sites, and understand performance variations across your portfolio.

The table includes the following columns for each site:

Site name/ID
Identifies the site location or facility. Click a site name to drill down to detailed site-level analysis.
Energy metrics
Shows charging energy, discharging energy, and net energy for each site. These metrics help you understand site-level energy throughput and compare activity levels across sites.
Round-trip efficiency
Displays the site-specific RTE, enabling direct comparison of efficiency across sites. Identify sites with lower efficiency for targeted optimization efforts.
State of health
Shows the battery state of health for each site. Compare degradation levels across sites to prioritize maintenance and replacement planning.
Availability percentage
Displays the percentage of time each site is available for operation. Identify sites with availability issues that may require maintenance or operational improvements.
Cycle count
Shows the number of cycles that are completed at each site. Compare usage patterns across sites and identify sites approaching maintenance thresholds.
Loss percentages
Displays the percentage of energy that is lost at each site. Identify sites with higher losses for targeted investigation and optimization.

You can select multiple sites for detailed comparison by clicking checkboxes next to site names. Sort and filter the table to focus on specific performance characteristics or identify outliers. Export selected sites or all data for reporting and further analysis.

Date range and data controls

The dashboard provides flexible date range selection to analyze performance across different time periods. Use the date range picker to select from preset options or define custom ranges:

  • Today—view current day performance
  • Last 7 days—analyze recent weekly trends
  • Last 30 days—review monthly performance patterns
  • Custom date range—select any start and end date for specific period analysis

The dashboard displays the last updated timestamp, showing when data was most recently refreshed. Click the refresh button to manually update data with the latest information. Optionally enable auto-refresh with configurable intervals to keep the dashboard current without manual intervention.

When you change date ranges or site selections, all KPI cards, visualizations, and tables update automatically to reflect the new scope. This ensures consistent analysis across all dashboard components.

Using the dashboard for portfolio optimization

The BESS Analytics portfolio dashboard supports several key operational workflows:

Performance monitoring
Use the KPI cards to monitor overall portfolio health and performance trends. Set up regular reviews to track key metrics over time. Compare current performance against historical baselines to identify improvements or degradation. Use the last updated timestamp to ensure that you are viewing current data.
Loss analysis and optimization
Analyze the loss distribution pie chart to understand where energy losses occur. So, identify the largest loss contributors and prioritize optimization efforts. Use the loss distribution table to quantify losses precisely and track the impact of optimization measures over time. Click loss segments to drill down to site-level or time-based details.
Multi-site comparison
Use the site performance table to compare metrics across your portfolio. Sort by efficiency, availability, or other metrics to identify the best and worst performers. Select multiple sites for detailed comparison. Investigate why some sites perform better than others and apply best practices across the portfolio.
Issue identification
Monitor availability percentages to detect sites with reliability issues. Compare the state of health across sites to identify batteries requiring maintenance or replacement. Look for sites with unusually high losses or low efficiency that may indicate operational problems or equipment issues.
Data-driven decision making
Export data from tables and charts for detailed analysis and reporting. Use historical data to identify trends and forecast future performance. Combine portfolio-level insights with site-level details to make informed decisions about maintenance, optimization, and capital investments.
