Installing the CDC Replication Engine for FlexRep using an interactive installation (Linux)

You can use the interactive install to install the CDC Replication software on a server. If you have X-Windows installed, the installation program will launch the configuration tool in a graphical environment.

Before you begin

Note the following before you install or upgrade IBM® Data Replication - CDC Replication software on Linux®:
  • Do not install or upgrade IBM Data Replication - CDC Replication as a root user.
  • The installation directory requires file system permissions of 700 if you plan to use the same user account to install the product, create and configure instances, or upgrade the product.
  • The installation directory requires file system permissions of 770 if you plan to use different user accounts to install the product, create and configure instances, or upgrade the product.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the account that you set up for IBM Data Replication - CDC Replication.
  2. Copy the IBM Data Replication installation file for your platform from the IBM Data Replication DVD or download it from the IBM web site.
  3. Make the installation binary file executable.
  4. Run the installation program by typing the following command:
    ./<installation_binary_name>.bin
  5. Press Enter on the Introduction screen to select Install new product.
  6. Enter the number that corresponds to FlexRep to select this datastore.
  7. Enter the number for the offering that you are entitled to. Contact your sales representative if you need help to determine your entitlement.
  8. Enter the absolute path to your installation directory or press Enter to accept the default.
    Note: The directory that you specify must be owned by the account that you are using for the installation. If the installation program cannot create the directory, you are prompted to specify a different directory.
  9. Follow the instructions on the screen to navigate through the license agreement. To accept the license agreement, type 1.
  10. Enter the absolute path to the folder where you want to your instance and product log to be created or press Enter to accept the default.
    Note: The directory that you specify must be owned by the account you are using for the installation. If the installation program cannot create the directory, you are prompted to specify a different directory.
  11. Review the installation summary. Press Enter to start the installation.

    After the installation is finished, you are given the option of launching the configuration tool for IBM Data Replication.

  12. Enter 1 to launch the configuration tool.

What to do next

After you have successfully installed the software on a server, you need to create your instances. Each instance that you create is a separate replication engine and is seen by Management Console as a datastore.

Note: Ensure that the installed version of the Management Console and Access Server applications are either the same version as the replication engine or a later version.
