You can choose to deploy Netezza Performance Server on private or public clouds. With 11.1.0.0, Netezza Performance Server is available on both IBM Cloud and Amazon Web Services.

For information on how to install Netezza Performance Server on cloud, see Installing.

The built-in automation and auto-recovery provides a highly-available and fault-tolerant deployment with minimal human touch, ensuring your data warehouse is running continuously without interruption.
  • The on cloud solution is fully compatible with the existing TwinFin, Striper and Mako workloads. It is the same database engine, but reconfigured and retooled for cloud using the Cloud Platform Infrastructure. You can also leverage cloud provider's Object Storage.

  • It is a lift and shift solution. On your appliance, you can run the nzbackup command to upload data to IBM Cloud Object Storage or AWS S3 and perform a restore on your cloud data warehouse by running the nzrestore command. You can also choose to run the nz_migrate command.

For more information, see Migrating with the backup and restore method.

  • Two types of database backup are supported: on-demand, and scheduled.

For more information, see Backup and restore.

  • You can continue to use your nz-* utilities.

For more information, see Remote command-line nz.

  • The SSL protocol is enabled by default for the on cloud databases.
  • SQL Extensions Toolkit is installed by default.
  • User management is integrated into Cloud Pak for Data, so a new authentication type EXTERNAL and authentication provider CloudPak are added and enabled by default. With them, you can use the Cloud Pak for Data user management.
