By cloning a record, you reduce the time that is spent on creating a DNS record and you
make sure that a new record has the same information as the original record.
Before you begin
- Make sure that the zones and the record that you want to use are already created.
- Make sure that your user or team permissions allow you to manage the zones that you want to use.
About this task
Cloning a DNS record duplicates all the information of an existing record: the answers, time to
live (TTL), metadata, and any Filter Chain. In addition, you can
place the record in either a subdomain of the original zone or you can place the record in another
zone. For example, if you are testing a record and want to put it into production, you can clone the
test record and change the domain name.
Unlike a linked record, the cloned record isn’t updated if the original record is updated.
You can clone a record from either a primary or a secondary zone, but only to a primary zone.
