Configuring a Slack notifier
You can configure alerts from IBM® NS1 Connect® to a Slack channel or user by adding it as a notifier to a notifier list, and then attaching the notifier list to an alert or monitoring job.
Before you begin
- You must have the Manage notifier lists permission enabled.
Step 1: Create a Slack webhook
- Refer to Creating an incoming webhook to set up a slack app or leverage an existing app.
- In app settings, click Incoming WebHooks.
- Activate Incoming WebHooks.
- To configure a webhook URL for your workspace, select a Slack channel to receive the alerts. Note that you can configure notifications to be sent directly to individual users.
Note: If you are not an administrator for your workspace, click Request Configuration.
- Copy the generated webhook URL and destination channel name.
Note: If you are leveraging legacy custom integrations, refer to Moving to Slack apps from Custom Integrations.
Step 2: Add Slack as a notifier in a notifier list
You can create a notifier list with the Slack notifier or add the Slack notifier to an existing list. Refer to the following instructions when adding a Slack notifier to a new or existing notifier list:
- From the Notifier type drop-down list, select Slack.
- In Slackbot username, enter the name of the bot that receives the alerts.
- In Webhook URL, enter the webhook generated in Slack.
- Enter the Slack channel or user to receive the alert. This does not need to be the default channel created in the previous step.

Previously, we instructed users to include the @ or # symbol, but the new design doesn't make this clear. Please confirm if users need to include the symbol or not. - Click Create notifier.
We never explain what this is or where to find it. Please advise.
