Configuring a Windows client for a UNIX license server

You can use LKAD or Installation Manager to configure a Windows client to use a UNIX license server

Configuring a Windows client for a UNIX license server using LKAD

  1. On the Windows client, open the IBM Rational® License Key Administrator (LKAD).
  2. Select Settings > Service Configuration.
  3. Enter the host name of the UNIX license server.
  4. Verify you are able to connect and view the licenses served.
    Note: The UNIX host name must be resolved by the Windows system. If issues occur in the name resolution, use the IP address of the UNIX system.

Installation Manager

For more information about using Installation Manager to manage licenses, see Using IBM Installation Manager to manage licenses.
  1. On the Windows client, click Start > Programs > IBM Installation Manager > IBM Installation Manager.
  2. After Installation Manager opens, click Manage Licenses.
  3. Select an installed product package, then select the Configure Floating license support option. Click Next.
  4. On the Licenses page, read the license agreement for the selected package. If you agree to the terms of all of the license agreements, click I accept the terms of the license agreements. Click Next.
  5. On the Floating License Support page, select Enable Floating license enforcement. Configure one or more license server connections:
    1. Click an empty field in the Servers table or click Add.
    2. If your administrator provided you with information for a redundant server environment, click Redundant Server. Fields for the primary, secondary, and tertiary server names and ports show.
    3. Enter the host name of the license server in the Name field.
    4. Enter a value in the Port field for environments where a firewall is used. Do not assign a value to this port unless your administrator instructs you to assign a value.
    5. For redundant server environments, enter the names and ports for the secondary and tertiary servers.
    6. Click Test Connection to confirm that the connection information is correct and that the server is available.
    7. Click OK.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Configure the license usage order for your packages. The order of licenses in the list determines the order in which your package attempts to obtain access to license keys for a given licensed package.
  8. Click Finish.
