Creating dashboards

The Dashboard builder is a user interface that creates dashboards.

About this task

A layout refers to the user-specific configuration of a page that is based on a layout template. For example, on the Dashboards navigation tab, each tab is a user layout, for example, Overview and Inventory. You can control the specific placement of cards on a dashboard.

Alternatively, you can configure dashboards by using the Widget management API. For more information, see Widget management API.

Procedure

  1. From the side navigation menu, click Builder > Dashboard builder.
The Dashboard library is displayed. The My dashboards tab shows existing dashboards. The Samples tab contains samples to help you start.
  2. To create a dashboard from sample, click the Copy icon on the row of the sample that you want to use and then click Save.

Create a dashboard.

  1. Click New dashboard and complete the following fields, then click Create.
    • Name
    • ID, which is autogenerated.
    • Description
    • Sequence, which is the order in which tabs are displayed on the dashboard.
    • Active, which shows or hides the dashboard. Inactive dashboards are not displayed.
  2. In the Context section, define variables to provide context for the page. For more information, see Configuring page context variables.

Add cards to the dashboard.

  1. The Cards panel shows existing cards. Hover over the card and click the plus icon (+).
Note: You can add only one filter to a dashboard. Adding another filter replaces the current filter, so you need to configure or subscribe each card to the new filter.
If you are adding filter card to the dashboard then after clicking the plus icon (+), Subscribe cards to filter panel appears:
    1. From the available cards, set the desired card to on and click Configure.

By default, no cards are subscribed to the filter.

    2. Search and select the attribute that you want to compare to the filter selection and go back to the Subscribe cards to filter panel.

The Configure filters for <Name of the card> panel shows the different attributes that are associated with the filter card. These attributes are set during the creation of the filter card and show up as filter categories on the filter card. If you want the card to update its queries to show filtered results when this filter category is selected, then set the attribute to On and select which attribute you want to compare to the filter selection. If a card has multiple queries, then configure an attribute for each query.

  2. Click Save to create the dashboard.
Your new dashboard appears in the Dashboard Library in the My dashboard section.
