Planning for configuring IBM Content Navigator
You need IBM® Content Navigator for all tasks that you can complete with Content Collector for SAP, except for archiving data, print lists, and outgoing documents and for viewing documents and print lists with the SAP GUI.
For IBM Content Navigator, Content Collector for SAP supplies the following features in a plug-in:
- Configuration Feature to configure Collector Server instances
- Administration Feature to create profiles for the
following tasks:
- Archiving incoming documents
- Linking archived documents to SAP
- Transferring index information from SAP to the archived documents
- Operation Feature to create, schedule, and run the tasks that you created task profiles for and to monitor the tasks and the Collector Server instances
As IBM Content Navigator administrator,
decide which features are needed and which users or user groups are
to have access to which feature. Also, decide how many desktops are
necessary. As a minimum, create the following desktops:
- A desktop for the Collector Server administrator. This desktop can contain all Content Collector for SAP features that you want to use. It typically contains Configuration Feature and Administration Feature. If the Collector Server administrator is also supposed to create and schedule the individual tasks, it also contains Operation Feature.

A desktop
for viewing objects. An object is a document, a folder,
a stored search, or a search template. This desktop does not need
any of the Content Collector for SAP features.
However, it must contain the repository where the objects are stored.
This desktop must be accessible by all users who are allowed to view
documents. See also Planning for secure viewing.
A desktop
for linking documents manually. This desktop does not need any of
the Content Collector for SAP features.
It must be accessible by all users who are allowed to link documents
manually.
